Game hangs at install

I just bought it the game a few weeks ago and when I went to install it last night it hung on my desktop. My PC may be too much for the poor little game.

PC specs:

AMD FX-60

2gigs Corsair XMS Dual Channel PC4400 (TwinX4400C25)
Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI (Motherboard)

Asus Dual 7800 GTX SLI (video cards)

2x WD Raptor drives 150g's ea. set on RAID 0

Windows XP Professional

Plextor PX760A Dual Layer DVD/CDR Burner

I turned off my firewall & The antivirus in manual load so it doesn't run in the background.

Just for kicks, can you try downloading Stardock Central (https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/) which will allow you to download the game over the internet.

My best guess is that, perhaps, the CDs aren't playing nice with the dvd burner (but thats just my VERY uneducated guess).

Let us know if the download version works, or if you get anywhere with the CD version.

Why would I want to purchase the game again? can't I just put in the existing SN and download it? or can I?

Your very uneducated guess was right on the money! it is my DVD burner! I put it on another PC with a GF 3 card in it on a 2.4ghz pc and a standard SCSI Burner and it worked just fine. So I gutted the other puter for the SCSI burner... but had to upgrade the controller to work on the PCX slot. I only got 1 32bit PCI (standard slot) and my Hard card Server adpater is in it!. I have 3 64 bit PCX slots left. The mobo is basically all 64bit except the one pci slot which is dual 64/32. So I upgraded the old u2w controller to and Ultra320, which is backward compatable 64/32bit and was able to get my UltraWide to be seen.

A game as simple as this one as of design wise is a great stepping stone to more of an interactive type of play - maybe don't make it turned based, but a more free flowing game like Homeworld 2. Then you can participate in the battles. RTS games (if not already - there are only a handful of Turned based games compared to the rest of the RTS games out there) will be obsolete soon because they have some steep competition out there as it is with Turned based types. It is a good stepping stone for now. I'm very interested in playing it.

Sorry you had to pull apart your computer like that but just for future reference, you CAN use your existing SN to download the game from SDCentral, so if you still have problems, give that a whirl

As for a real-time version, we've discussed such a thing in passing, but it's still at "backburner" status, but with the unexpected (yet highly enjoyed) success of GC2, this could change at any moment

Hope you enjoy the game!

I'm having the same problem as Indy did. Unfortunately, I don't have a CD drive laying around to switch out. I am very disappointed with Stardock, now forcing me to try to download the game.
