Ship Yard and ship design....

Where are my fighters?

I just started playing Gal Civ 2 and I'm a new player to the series. I started my first game on a tiny map with a few opponents just to get the feel for it. One thing that I noticed is that despite the fact that I have been researching like mad, I only have a few ships in my ship yard. This seems a bit odd since I have Mass Drivers, Titanium armor, Medium size hulls, and a lot of other technology (and my opponents who I left relatively inept are producing heavy attack fighters and such). Is there anywhere that I can see a list of what is required to produce new ships? The last new ship I acquired was a Scout (for a total of 5 ships I can build). I seem to remember seeing info on ships that I would be able to produce when I researched certain techs, but now I don't see any of that information and I'm not sure why I can't begin producing a fleet to crush my opponents...

This may sound like a silly question, but you have gone into the ship design area and designed some of your own ships, right?

The game comes loaded with a few standard ship designs, but if you want to have any sort of fleet, you've got to design your own ships, really. That's where you get to glue your mass drivers & armour onto the medium sized hulls.

Of course if you've designed ships of your own and they aren't showing up on your build list, then that's a whole other problem that I can't help you with, I'm afraid.

You can find a break down of required techs here:

Which was taken from this thread here:

I was having trouble getting some of the core ships to show up, and honestly you are better off making custom ships designed to specifically counter your enemies ships using the ship constructor.

Thanks. I had gone into the ship builder and played around, but I was expecting to have more options from the default set of ships. Maybe I'm just missing some minor required component. I'll check against the break down of required techs for the ships and figure it out. It would have been helpful if somewhere that information was listed (not in a forum).

The documentation is still a work in progress I think. For now players are coming up with their own resources. In my sandbox games I was only able to get core ships from the beam weapons line to actually show up. So if you can't get the sniper or missile boat to show up, try researching the techs for lasers, etc.

Ahhh... I see. I think there may be a slight bug in that regards.
I have all the components listed at the other site for a "Sniper", but can't seem to build one. In fact, I can't fit nearly as many components on a tiny hull as are listed... I can get the hull and both railguns but that leaves no room for sensors or support.
