Forming alliances?

well you have to keep giving them stuff until the alliance option pops up on the trade window. The option will pop up when your relationship with them goes from Friendly to "Close".

Im about convinced though that it is 99.999% impossible to form an alliance with a race unless you are a powerful player in the galaxy.


In the game im currently playing..im at the bottom of the totem poll. The Torians are a strong race in this game.. they are the same alignment as me, and have a friendly status with me as well. Recently.. they just upped and said they were attacking the Drengin for me (the Drengin were at War with me).. i figured this means they are ripe for an alliance.

So i saved my game.. and then tried to get them to form an alliance with me. 2 planets, 5 techs, and 25,000bc later..the option still wasnt available.

makes no sense. Normally I can get races to ally with me fairly easily.. but im trying something different this time and because of that im one of the weaker races. So that is the only thing I can think of.. it must be because im not powerful.

How powerful you are doesn't matter. To form an alliance you need the following conditions :

- BOTH of you must have the Alliance technology researched. (So if the other doesn't have it, it never hurts to just give it to them.)
- You MUST be "close" in your relations with them. Not friendly, not warm. Close.

Then you'll have the option for an alliance. Note that if your potential alliance partner gets attacked often, it might be wise to not make an alliance, since you'll have to go to war if they're attacked (or cancel the alliance), and that kills all your trade routes, which could wind up costing you 200 bc per week...

I think they need a little work, a race should be more hesitant to attack another race if they have alliances, and the allies really should come to your aid once you're at war. I've been allied with the humans many times, and everytime I have someone attack me, they declare war as well, then sit back and watch me do all the fighting.
