Noob ? about shields

Ok so I can see where you can research armor for your ships.
I don't see any techs that give your ships any other types of defences.
I do see modules you can put on your starbases for shields... but nothing for mobile ships.
I don't see the 3rd type of defence, the one for missiles, anywhere.

I have surfed, but it seems everyone already has this knowledge and thus there is no discusion of it.

Where can I find info concerning how to put defences other than armor on my ships?

On your tech research screen, hit the "more" button on the bottom right of the screen. You can now see more of the tech tree, and should find what you are looking for.

If you're playing the campaign, the early missions only have armor. You get shields and point defense later.

Sorry about the double post...

If I may, I would also like to comment on this forum structure.

I'm trying to think of a polite way to say... it blows chunks. Sorry, but I truly have never seen a more cluttered, difficult to navigate forum. In addition, posts don't seem to even go to the forum you posted them in, making them kinda hard to find later if you assume they are where you put them. I actualy had to run a search to find my own post.

Neways, hope my opinion on the forum structure doesnt prevent people from helping with info about ship defences, or at least where I can find info about ship defences. Is there a digital manual to go with the digital download? Something that might explain how to put a shield on a ship?

I truly hope it isn't what I suspect.... that you must have a starbase in the area, and that starbase provides point defence and shields. That would be a tragedy. "Oh noes my uber battleship is out of range of its starbase, and now can not protect itself!" "I must somehow build a military starbase in enemy territory so my ships dont blow up vs low tech weapons!"..... If thats the case I am off to mod this game into something more playable.

Oh... I did hit more, still nothing showing there concerning shields except for starbases....

I sure wish the downlaod version came with a manual....

It should have. When you click your shortcut that you got when you installed the game, it should have a few options other than 'play' one would be 'manual'. I also heard on the downlow that the manual comes as a .pdf file in the directory somewhere, so you might wanna look where you installed the game to check on that.
