"Good" Civilization Defense Technology. Bonus or no Bonus?

Hi. I was playing most recently as an evil civ and I researched the superior weapons and they were great. So I decided to go for a Good civ to see the defenses. However, when I research Arnorian Armor, Telepathic Defence, and Subspace rebounder, the tech window (which usually shows what exactly this tech, would, or does, do for me) is blank. I research it but nothing new becomes available and none of my existing defensive technologies have an increased defensive value. Is this an oversight or am I missing something? Or was this in the update that my computer didn't want to download for some reason?
