I started a game and researched loads of technology, then i gave it to another civ for free. But after on the research graph it didn't spike for there research.. does this mean it hasn't affected them?

If it acts anybit like GalCiv1, the graphs only show the amount of research done every turn, not the amount of research actually done since the beginning of the game.
