The Tutorial Vids are Cool

I just wanted to say I apprecate the Tutorial Vids. They are well done, informative, and not to long. I had a very good feel for most aspects of the game by the time I finished watching them.

They even have some great interface tips included.

Good job, gang!

I guess I would like to see video tutorials of specific aspects of the game. Like I know an Infuence starbase help spred influnce...but like...how. Where is the best place to put it? How does it work when crunching the numbers? Things like that.

The tutorials that came with the game are great and enabled me to jump right into the game. After playing my first game however, I find myself trying to dig deeper and finding out "why" things work the way they do in this game. The manual has more on this type of thing but I guess I would like even more...in video form.

I often find that it is difficult to decide on what tech to go for...maybe you could have a tutorial explaining in more detail what the different paths of the tech tree will do for your civ on a wider basis than just new upgrades and techs available. Also, managing the sliders that control how much production goes to military/research/improvements is often difficutl. Is it better to jerk the bar up and down, or to leave it pretty similar? Mainly, I think the mechanics of the game are fairly well explained in the current tutorials, but would be useful to have some basic strategy advice for a newb.

Frankly, while the tutorials probably took a lot of effort, they are inherently wrongheaded (and yes, I watched them all). Watching a non-interactive tutorial might be a good marketing tool, but is only marginally better then useless IMO for learning to play. Some kind of scripted walkthrough of a game, which allowed the player hands-on experience, would have been infinitely more valuable--and probably have cost less, too.

I hate scripted walk-throughs myself. For me, they are too structured, and I spend all my time trying to click on the next item and loose concentration on the overall lesson. I much prefer the vid approach where I get a overall feel for what I am to do and then I can go off and try it.

To each his own, I guess.
