EB Games Backorder?

Just looked up the EB Games website to check the status of the game...BACKORDER @!#@! I'm really happy that Galactic Civilizations 2 is in such demand. But I have a question regarding the pre order bonus stuff.

Brad had said that nomatter where you purchase the game from, you would get the pre order digital content as long as you purchased from the first distributed serial numbers. Now that EB Games (among others like Wal Mart and Amazon) is in a state of backorder, will this mean that the lot that ends up at my EB Games will not be of the first batch, thus eliminating the possibility to DL the pre order digital content?

I just canceled by EB Games pre-order. The website said that they hadn't gotten the game yet. So I switched my order to going through Stardock and have a serial number and just have to download the game. Defintely annonying that I'm going to lose the pre-order digital content, all because I wanted to help the sales ranking at EB Games. Last time I'll try something like that when there is an option to order directly from the publisher.

I'm willing to wait (although I have this uncontrollable shake throughout my body )

I live in Canada and EB Games was never going to ship the Collector's Edition here (according to both online help and 3 of my local stores there was only one SKU listed as Brad gave me both SKU's to look up) which is why I was so pleased with Stardock when they addressed the issue by stating that as long as you purchase from the initial release batch, (Stardock tracks the serial numbers) you would be able to DL the digital content of the pre order. After all it's that extra digital stuff I really wanted (the tech tree would have been nice though )

Now that EB Games has not ordered enough to fill its needs, has entered a state of back order, and probably will have to place another order with the distributor to receive more product. I REALLY hope that I will still be able to DL that pre order stuff now that my order has been pushed to who knows when.

I would think if there is an issue (which I can not imagine) all it would take is a fax (or forward of email to SD) of your confirmation email showing ordering before the release date. Well, at least I am trusting so as I ordered form EB Games as well.

I too just cancelled my EBGames.com order. I did so after speaking to a live human-type person there about what the heck is going on.

He said EB had not yet received a single copy of the game from the publisher!! Hence, nothing pre-ordered has shipped... and they placed the item on backorder until they start seeing the product.

Has anyone reading these forums gotten word from EB that their copy has shipped?

If true (and I stress IF) this can't make Stardock look good to a major on-line retailer.

Anyway... over to the Stardock store to purchase...

You might want to try Gamestop.com. I just checked their site and they are still taking preorders for it.

I have a copy reserved when my local EBgames outlet (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) gets their shipment, which was supposed to be today, but now they're saying not until tomorrow at least.

It's out of Stardocks hands once the distibutor gets involved. As for the "human like" person you talked to, who knows if there feeding you a line or not? EB Games has centralized warehousing, (which is also why you rearely see any game at EB on release date---usually a day or two after) so maybe they're just messed up internally....

This sucks. I pre-ordered with my local EB. I haven't checked with them yet, but it sounds like EB doesn't have the game, period.

Apparently Wal-Mart doesn't have the game either, according to another thread.

If I cancel my pre-order and order from Stardock, will I still get the collector's edition with all the pre-order schwag?

I doubt this has anything to do with Galciv 2 being in high demand. After all, it would make sense for a retailer to AT LEAST order enough units to fill their pre-orders. I'm guess that this has to be some sort of supply chain/distribution issue. It's quite frustrating. I went with ebgames because I have dealt with them in the past, and things had always gone smoothly. Though, it sounds like this problem is not unique to ebgames (amazon, walmart, etc.)

I agree, they could be feeding a line... that's why my earlier post said:

Is Take 2 the distributor? Maybe they dropped the ball. I hope it does not, in the end, reflect poorly on Stardock.

Anyway, I just went to totalgaming.net and bought ten tokens, spent five on galciv2, five for the future... dowloading the game right now. Baby there's nothing like instant gratification.

If anyone else cancels... make sure you get a cancellation confirmation from EB before buying it elsewhere.

Just a quick note---Gamestop owns EBgames.... the final merger will happen soon (my son works for ebGames).

I too have cancelled my EB Games (local store) pre-order so I could download the game in order to have it today.
My local EB didn't know when it would be in (after they promised the 22nd last week).

Is there any way to get the pre-order goodies? I can scan my pre-order receipt if necessary.

If not, it looks like I'll be getting double scr3wed by EB!

Asmodai X - No worries, you'll definitely be in the first run. Brad was referring to the first production run, which should last us some time.

I have been calling the local EBs and the drones behind the counter have to look it up every time and tell me first, not Tuesday, maybe Wednesday and today, maybe tomorrow or Friday. I'm going home tonight and ordering online and having the box shipped to me.

It so sad that the people working at EB are strickly console monkeys and even if they have a bit of knoweldge about PC gaming it's restricted to HL2 (mind you, a good game). I long for the intelligent, independant game store.
