windowed mode

(Sorry but could not find a search function for the forums) can anyone please explain how to go into windowed mode? I have unchecked the fullscreen option in video options, now what?

actually, i had the same problem. I unchecked "fullscreen" then restarted the game, and it was still fullscreen (even though the option was still unchecked).
The game also doesn't let me change the resolution, and after showing the first few battles in the Combat Viewer, the rest of the battles through the night didn't go into the combat viewer (I also checked the option to show all battles that my ships are in).

I'm guessing from all this that my video driver needs to be updated, but I was having too much fun playing the game to try and fix things that were basically just cosmetic.

The solution is simple. Reduce your game resolution or increase your desktop resolution.

Windowed mode is working, but you just can't see the window frame and tastk bar, because the game is still at 1024*768, or the exact equivalent of your desktop. So, the title bar and such is there, just off screen, where you can't reach it. Should still be fine without changing the resolution if you just want a 'boss mode or to take notes in a program without awkward delays switching between programs.

0_o ...balooney... so that's it? I can't reduce the game screen rez, so what's the use of windowed-mode if it fills up the entire screen anyway!?!?!?

Well, it behaves better when you use ALT+TAB . And some people have a higher desktop resolution

I play on 22" monitor with resolution at 1600x1200 with the game running in windows mode at 1024x768

The game requires a minimum resolution of 1024x768. If your desktop is at that resolution and you are playing in a window, you're playing in a full-screen window. Which as noted above, maybe happier with alt-tab for some people.

You can also force windowed mode by creating a shortcut like:

"C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" w

Be sure the working directory for the shortcut is set to the appdir as well.
