Curious about this game.

I love this type of game, but I have not played GC1 and GC2 looks great. But I have a few questions before I buy it.
Are the space battles in 3D or does it take place in a 2D plane? Is the universe in 2D? How large is the universe in this game? And does the downloaded version of this game come with a full manual?

Is the universe in 2D?

The universe is a 2D plane with 3D graphics. In other words, there is a camera that you can tilt, pan, and zoom, and all the ships are rendered with fully 3D models, but the actions of the game world (movement, etc.) are all based on a 2D tile system.

Are the space battles in 3D or does it take place in a 2D plane?

There is a 3D cinematic-style combat viewer available to watch the battles in a Homeworld-esque way; however, this is purely a cosmetic feature. You can turn on/off this battle view for various types of battles as you wish.

How large is the universe in this game?

Tiny --> Gigantic. Everything from a handful of stars to a jelly-bean jar full of them. Everything from takes an afternoon to play, to takes weeks to play.

And does the downloaded version of this game come with a full manual?

In PDF format, yes.

-The space battles are fully 3d, but the main playing map takes place on a 2d plane.

-The galaxy size can range from 3x3 sectors (a few hours to play through) to 18x18 sectors (weeks to a month to play through).

-A PDF version of the manual comes the the download, for for a small price you can get the Boxed version sent to you with the printed manual.

Hope this helped
