Hull Size Naming Conventions

As a fan of more fantasy based games, literature etc.... I am not exactly familiar with the standard naming conventions for Hull sizes for spacecraft although I am fairly certain they mostly follow ships.

Can anyone supply a little more information. Currently I am thinking that these are approximately the right types to fit with GC2.

CLASS (Hull size)

Fighter (Tiny)
Corvette (Tiny)
Frigate (Small)
Destroyer (Medium)
Cruiser (Large)
Battlecruiser (Large)
Battleship (Huge)
Dreadnought (Huge)

I realise it's not exactly important, but I think it would help me to know what the standardised convention is.

Cheers

Your classifcations look good. I don't have that many

Mine are:

Tiny: Light fighters, no defense
Small: Heavy fighters, no defense or light Frigates with 1 defense
Medium: Heavy Frigates, usually 1 or 2 defence
Large: Cruisers, always defended
Huge: Battleships and Dreadnaughts

I name them as follows:

Tiny: ABS (insect name) light laser fighter, AGS (insect name) light Gun fighter, AMS (insect name) light missile fighter

Small: BBS (bird name) heavy laser fighter or light frigate, BGS (bird) heavy gun fighter or light frigate, BMS heavy missile fighter or light frigate

Medium: CBS (reptile) laser frigate, CGS (reptile) gun frigate, CMS (reptile) missile frigate

Large: Cruisers (animals) with the DBS, DGS and DMS designation.

Huge: Battleships EBS, EGS, EMS named after Gods

Huge+ Heroic names sometimes with combined arms and combined defense

No defense on fighters period. I try to get at least 1 defense on frigate and above

Heh, another SFB player

Depending on my mood, I'll name them in "Generic" SFB names (FF, DD, DW, CL, CA, etc) or I'll occassionally go on different race themes (SparrowHawk, SeaHawk, WarBird, etc)

I've done Klingon (D7M!!) Romulan, Orion, Gorn, Federation, etc. Hrm, I don't recall ever doing Hydran, perhaps specialize in fleets that have a small number of core ships and lots of fighters (tiny hulls). Early game, you go with whatever works, but late game you can try to build towards design philosophy.
