Galactic recession

I understand we're living in a difficult galaxy, but I really hoped the future would be brighter

I'm playing the beta and in the current game I am currently experiencing my third Recession period (in the same game I mean).

Although it really requires you to change quite substantially the strategy you're using, adding therefore deep and complexity, it is anyhow annoying.

Are you gamma people having the same experience or is it just me?

Beta or Gamma, I can't think of more than once that I had more than one recession in a game, and I play long games. They certainly don't hapen even in most games, so I think you're seeing an extreme statistical fluke.

I had them quite often in the Beta (several times per game), but I've heard they've been toned down in the later versions.

according to the devs everything should be balanced out now so the game should play much better

In the final, all events are less common and the recession only does a 25% hit to your economy instead of 50%.

I noticed while playing beta, that recession would show up most of the time that an event would take place. I think I played through 30 games and only saw recession events.

Hmmm, I have never played a game that I didn't have recession(s) and Booms.

I didn't exactly like the recessions but as long as the AI has the same to deal with it is okay.

Thats good newz.

I saw then fairly frequently but never more than once in a game. What really hurts is when it comes early in the game.

Ive yet to encounter a recession. Ive had hyper sensors... boosted speeds... increased production rates... and the booming economy...but never once a recession.

I guess Ive just been lucky.

However, at the very least all of these events affect every player in the game...not just you... so really a recession just slows the game down... (makes combat much more meaningful too, if you cant quickly replace your losses)

I've had all of the events I have heard of, Except for the thing in one of Brad's play examples - The drengin having an alignment polarity reversal.

There are a ton of them in there. It's all about rarity.  Everything from civil wars, alignment changes, intergalactic invasions, terrorists, plagues, you name it.  But the odds of getting many of them are only 1 in 10,000 per turn which means you'd have to play a lot of games to ever see them.

Great to know that in the final version we'll have some more money to spend.

Strange anyhow such a big variance in the occurrences. Did anyone set his race to be "lucky"?
Is randomness of events affected by this attribute?
