I will never understand why people always want something for free, just because they buy something else.

because within two weeks it becomes outdated and very few people will ever buy it considering that theres such a cool new version out.

And some game companies offer the older version of their games when u buy the new one as a type of bonus.

i was just throwing it out there as a cool sugestion

Apologies if I sounded a bit harsh, I work in Customer Service and Sales. It gets a bit frustrating to have people asking for everything and the kitchen sink for free.

Wow Robzig...you'd think someone in sales would be a bit more cheery. But I guess the customer service bit would do someone in.

Besides, by all accounts GC1 is no kind of indicator for GC2...theres been light years of advancement. SD probably wouldnt want you to base any opinions of GC2 on it.

It is a little odd though, to see GC1 still priced as a new game through the Stardock client store. I always prefer to buy content directly from developers, especially indie developers, if the option is there. Id be much more likely to check out GC1 if it were priced a little more in line with a 3 year old game.

haha it's funny, with how good galciv2 looks, I figured I'd download the demo of galciv, and of course, was frustrated by the demo limit. So I bought it, and have been enjoying it quite a lot while I wait for galciv2. I'm not sure what my point is, that I'm a sucker and paid for a game that's outdated and about to be replaced, or that maybe it's still good enough to stand on its own. Either way, not long now.

Been in that business for many years. Sometimes when you do things for too long....it's why I apologized hehehe

Actually, last word from Stardock was that GC1 was not going to be thrown away as an outdated version of the franchise. As far as I know they still plan on supporting both GC1 and GC2 with updates... though I wouldnt expect much in the way of content / big new feature addtions...

I couldn't do it, I tried about a week ago to go back and play GC1... no dice I kept comparing it to the beta (no contest, beta even with CTD was much more fun to be in). SO I have removed the beta from my desktop (although I left it on the laptop, just in case I have to go on travel somewhere and the connection when I get there is only a 28K dialup (pokes fun at the person in another post).

Anywho, I shifted back to playing 1503 AD and Pirate Hunter. Although they are barely sufficient now to pass the time I really can not afford to go get Civ4. Ms. Straykat would cough up a furball on me if I did, especially with xmas just a bit ago.

I got frustrated by the demo ending in januari 2190 as well.. so I started a new game with all 5 opponents on Fool difficulty, packed in a tiny galaxy.
Conquered them, and 3 minor civs, by august 2189.
I "finished" the demo.
( All 4X vets are probably laughing their collective asses off )

GalCiv 1 is still a nice game in it's own right, but I can't afford to buy 2 games in 2 weeks time

Well i have had access to the beta from the start and whilst i do like the new game, as parts of it far outstrip GC1, i am still playing GC1 and thoroughly enjoying it. I guess as Galciv 1 mods manager i do have all the resources at hand (after single handly checking most of the mods out) it is no more than the rest of you can get. My version of the game is far removed from the simple one i first bought in a local shop because i liked the look of the box, it is so modded i doubt many things are the same still However i am looking forward to the prospect of a new expansion pack for GC1 and the extra content it will offer GC1 fans.

What i guess i am saying is dont rule out the first version as it still has loads to offer fans of the Galciv series
