Preordering Question

I am really looking forward to this game. This liking has brought me to the point where I will preorder it. Before doing so, I have a question. On the galciv1 site, there are two options for purchase: "Pre-Order for Electronic Download" and "Pre-Order for Electronic Download and receive final on CD". I am not sure on what the latter means. Does it mean I will download the game on Feb 21 and then get a CD, or does it mean something else?

Any answer can and will be appreciated.

That's it. (Be aware that you'll have to pay shipping for the CD, but the "physical" pre-order goodies like a tech-tree poster etc. will be included.)

Well, I think it is something like 10$, but it is possible that you need to pay custom tax.

Well, thanks for the links. I'm not interested in localized versions. In fact, one of the key advantages of electronic distribution for me is that I can get all games in english (which is sometimes a pain here, even with some retailers who specialise in importing games and stuff). I just always like the original version better (no obscure translations and so forth). I was very glad I figured out how to extract the english soundfiles out of those InstallShield cabs with Civ4. You wouldn't want to miss Leonard Nimoy reading the tech quotes...

Still, a CD will be handy so I'll probably just shoot Sales an email to set it up. Customs fee is no problem, I just received a 5kg book from a US publisher and only paid about 4 Euros for that.

If we pre-orderd the digital download version and were in the public beta will we be able to download the final version as soon as the game goes Gold? There is no reason for us to wait for CD's to be made. Thanks.

No, GalCiv II won't be made available for download until it's just about ready to hit retail stores (retailers would be quite unhappy otherwise).

Just about ready- trying to get a clarification on what the exact estimated date/time is.
I'm in a bit of a rush on the matter due to my work schedule. I have to go into work that night(1900-0700 local)- so hoping to DL it the night before- since I work 12's the next two nights.

Is 12:01am CST of the 21st a good estimate?

If you aim for February 20th/21st, you should be safe. Don't expect a midnight release, though, developers need sleep too (though Brad's been trying to prove that wrong).
