Lack of Activity on the Steam Workshop

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had any insights as to why no one seems to be uploading material to the Steam Workshop at the moment, I kinda thought there would be a flurry of activity in the early going. Is this a sign that the modding community may not be super strong for this game? Is there some technical reason why and I'm just unaware of it?

Probably waiting for the final 1.1 release. This test release is a little sketchy.

Yeah, that's a MAJOR potential concern for everyone, including developers.  However, it's too early to make a judgement on that.

I got this game primarily because of future work on it by modders because there are a lot more modders than actual Stardock programmers.  The game as of now has a lot of gameplay mechanics issues.

There are TONS of modders out there for this game.

Keep in mind atm all the steam workshop for GC3 handles is custom factions and ship designs.  Which tbh is not modding, not knocking the efforts of those who put the time in, esp for the ship designs which is very fiddly work, but modding is the changing of game files to make the game do something or offer some feature not normally available.  Personally when the workshop starts handling mods I expect it to positively erupt.

Three things:

1. The 1.1 patch isn't 'live' so a significant portion of people won't have it and therefore can't use the workshop.

2. Those who can are limited to uploading ships and (simple) factions.

3. Those who can have also been warned that what they upload now will probably get removed when 1.1 gets released.

Yeah, the main reason is that Stardock stated that files will probabyl get removed, I guess.

This, particularly point 3. There's no point uploading tons of stuff as there's a good chance it'll need to be wiped when 1.1 gets released, so for now most people are just doing enough uploads/downloads to test the functionality. Which is, after all, exactly with the 1.1 opt-in is for. ;)

Due to the nerfing of 1.01 and .02 I'm staying with 1.03 till 1.1 is released even though I cant mod for toffee I can design ships and factions so when 1.1 goes live I shall be pumping out ships like no tomorrow at least as I have posted pics of my templates in the ship designer thread already.Their not as good as Rands but I like them.

Once that workshop goes live theres gonnabe a massive rush of uploads I just hope steam can handle it!

The mod I am working on will not be supported by steam workshop. Due to the current limitations placed on what can be submitted. Thus no submission ;)

Most people probably are waiting for the proper 1.1 release, in addition with the time I have the mod I'm working on will take some time particularly was I'm trying to produce art assets through Blender rendering for it.

I think there will be plenty of mods start to appear once the 1.1 patch is out of beta.

These responses are very encouraging to me. I think this game has the bones to be one - if not the - best 4x game made to this point but an active modding community is going to be central to that and I always considered Stardock one of the most generous and progressive developers on that front (until Colossal Order, anyway).

Have the devs given a sense of when a non-beta, non-opt-in 1.1 would be live?

Please stop, the game works fine and you know it.  However, the game may not be what you want it to be and that's another story as you're not the developer so stop complaining about everything.

As far as the OP's post I updated all my factions to the steam workshop just for you ;)

Dude, awesome! Thank you for posting these. I can't wait to play with them.

Ive pretty much abandoned any development for GC3. I think with all the numerous bugs and the design depth what it is, it just isn't really in my best interest in spending time on it at the moment. Maybe in a few months after a few patches.

why can't we make a modding site untill steam start to support modding.

There is a modding site, either post to the modding forum or to nexus or to both.

From what I can tell I can't opt into this test release. So I've not been able to check out anything or try anything yet.

I've uploaded some Klingon ships I've been making as a test; seems to be working.

Tbh, I don't really give a damn about that - it's not like SD are going to wipe the mod files from my hard drive, so I can just re-upload them if I want. I'm not uploading anything because it's so limited presently.
