Consistent Mini Dump Crashes during Late Game

Consistent Mini Dump Crashes during Late Game

Three friends and me have been playing a lot of Rebellion over LAN lately. It's been a blast, but we have been consistently experiencing a crash during the late game. It has happened with a multi-star map, but also with single stars. It has happened with large fleets enabled, but also with normal fleets enabled. I wonder if it's happening during one of the auto saves.

We can't help but wonder if it's being caused by the lesser Phantom or Intel Core processors or the machine with only 4 GB of memory. To that end, we are doing some testing (have another one lined up in about an hour from now).

Two of the computers: i7 2 GHz processors (2630), quad core with hyper threading, 8 GB of DDR3 memory, and the GeForce 460M (1 GB of video memory).

One of the computers: Phenom II 965 BE 3.4 GHz processor, quad core, 16 GB of DDR3 memory, and the ATI HD 5770 (1 GB of video memory).

One of the computers: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz processor (6320), 4 GB of DDR2 memory, and the ATI Radeon HD 5670.

The crashes are referencing a mini dump and I recently sent three dump files (from three different games) to Stardock Support for their review. Hopefully the dump files will help them determine the cause.

Does this work at all or have anything to do with the MiniDump issues some of us are having Major Stress?
End of OrexxerO's quote

No, Major Stress is talking about something else. The mini dump issues discussed in this thread are something that has been confirmed as an issue. Yarlen, in this thread, indicated that they are working on squashing this bug, as did an e-mail from Technical Support. We'll see a patch eventually that will hopefully put this ugly crash to rest.

Hope so, cus if not my Sins days will probably be over unfortunately.

yeah I just got into game, was enjoying my first playthrough exploring the factions.....minidump. and again, and again and again. Its sitting there in my steam library calling me to play it.,....then I remember the frustration of having the damn game crash on me every 30-60 minutes. Not worth it. Hopefully they fix this soon, I hate feeling ripped off. I guess I should take solace in the fact that there is a lot of new games coming out soon.

Also, Stardock, could you at least tell us in this thread? (looking at yarlen) what you guys are actually doing to actively work on this issue other then vague "we will crush space ponies!"? Would be nice to know what you guys are doing to fix and how much longer you think it will take.

Not like im expecting a deadline or something like that, just wondering what kind of hope i can hold for playing it in the future.

There's several crash issues that we're investigating currently that we hope to fix for 1.04.  It's impossible for me to say which one you guys are hitting specifically, but we're working on them all. ;)

Thanks for responding. Do you have any idea when that new path will come out?

Having this problem myself. When in the game for a solid hour or two, it crashes to mini-dump and says, "Sins of a Solar Empire has stopped working."

Any idea's when this 1.04 patch is going to be out? Because how it sits now I don't want to even play a game out of fear I'll get into another game and in an hour it will just minidump and I can't finish the map. Already has happened 3 times on three different maps with the Medium-Large map, AI set to Hard, and all options set to normal as settings.

Yarlen has said that the new patch will be out sometime this month.

We're testing it out internally currently and plan to put it out as an opt-in beta via Steam next week.  If there are no major issues reported, it'll go out as final to everyone a few days afterwards.

Be warned, it will not be save game compatible.

u can load the auto save tho, auto save works on multyplayer to but the game is not rated

I give up, can't even play a small 2/4 game anymore. :/

I hope the update is early next week, I want to try and do the hard AI achievements.

What I found was happening with my minidumps is they occurred when my games were exceeding 2gigs of RAM so after a bit of further investigation i figured out that my Sins was only allotting itself up to that point and when it exceeded it, it just gave up and dumped.

To fix it I went into my computer's command prompt and entered "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" which allows the game to exceed the 2gigs it originally gave itself. I haven't had a minidump since then even on the biggest of games.

I hope this works for others.

You know Yarlen hid that for a bit right? And my last post was before he made it visible. We know its happening Tuesday now.

I just had two minidumps in online 2v2s within the first half hour. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

No.

Edit: Well, waiting for the update and applying it (assuming it will be released tomorrow like the devs' stated) won't be a bad idea.

As PorkRoast said.

"To fix it I went into my computer's command prompt and entered "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072"(my note, if U have 64bit system, You can set 4096) which allows the game to exceed the 2gigs it originally gave itself. I haven't had a minidump since then even on the biggest of games.

This will work 100%, start listening each other!

p.s. If of course you have enough RAM for that.
