Consistent Mini Dump Crashes during Late Game

Three friends and me have been playing a lot of Rebellion over LAN lately. It's been a blast, but we have been consistently experiencing a crash during the late game. It has happened with a multi-star map, but also with single stars. It has happened with large fleets enabled, but also with normal fleets enabled. I wonder if it's happening during one of the auto saves.

We can't help but wonder if it's being caused by the lesser Phantom or Intel Core processors or the machine with only 4 GB of memory. To that end, we are doing some testing (have another one lined up in about an hour from now).

Two of the computers: i7 2 GHz processors (2630), quad core with hyper threading, 8 GB of DDR3 memory, and the GeForce 460M (1 GB of video memory).

One of the computers: Phenom II 965 BE 3.4 GHz processor, quad core, 16 GB of DDR3 memory, and the ATI HD 5770 (1 GB of video memory).

One of the computers: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz processor (6320), 4 GB of DDR2 memory, and the ATI Radeon HD 5670.

The crashes are referencing a mini dump and I recently sent three dump files (from three different games) to Stardock Support for their review. Hopefully the dump files will help them determine the cause.

Oops, typo. It's actually a Phenom.

Stardock's reply:

This is a new crash that has been cropping up with the new patch, we are currently looking into it. There is no fix at this time, please bear with us at the moment.

Thanks, Stardock.

Hopefully we'll soon see the patch that fixes this consistent crash.

My friends and I are eager to start playing again.

I haven't played since the new patch hit, but the fear of the minidumps are making me not even want to try.

I sure hope it does get fixed.

I can only play Divinity 2 DKS / Reckoning Amalurr / Skyrim so much before I start craving my galactic conquests.

Well if it helps, personally I've found this version to be quite stable. At worst the minidump rate is once every two hours on my end, and I haven't gotten anything that consistently crashes. If you're playing really long games, say after 4 hours, it may become less stable though.

agh so it is a 1.3 issue? i have been getting consistent mini dumps myself.

now as i always play 8+ hour games, 5 vicious Ai and me on Medium large maps( its the most my pc can handle) i run into that stupid minidump error every time. and it isnt the 2 gb limit either.

I get minidumps all the time as well.. not even worth playing it like this :/

We'll squash them or the space ponies will squash us. >.>

I have to ask, do you guys know if in those late games if the memory is peeking out?  I have had only one crash so far and when it did. the memory bounced above the 2 gigs.  So, I was wondering if that may be the case for many of you guys too?

Other then the one crash, the game has been very stable for us, and we have played at least 40 games now.

Hell, I'm crashing randomly even 25 minutes in game now..

Thats really weird dude,  are you using any mods or is this just the plain original game thats giving you issues?

Maybe time to look at drivers?

Plain 'ole game.. It seems extremely intermittent.

Have you tried to Verify your Game Integrity cache in Steam?

Instead of starting a new thread. This one seems to be along the same line of problem i'm having with this minidump issue. To answer your question Yarlen. I myself checked the game integrity on steam and it found nothing. Im now in the process of reinstalling the game and putting my back upped files back into the game to see if that even temporary fixes the issue. But from what people have said it seems to happen late late game like 4 hours into. And yes, I have been playing a single player match for 4 hours 15 minutes and then I am now getting minidump crashes when I try to load the game back up. Very frustrating to have 4 hours of work get nuked like this. :(

Update: Btw stardock, sent you a support e-mail with my minidump file. (hopes they can help)

Bump....so does anyone have ANY suggestions? Im still waiting on a response in my e-mails from stardock. They sent my problem on to the rebellion support. still nothing though. And I am really not interested in playing rebellion if the game is going to just end at any moment thus waisting my time.

I don't know what a "minidump" is.

But I am thoroughly dissapointed. My Core2Duo (E6850) / 4GB ram / GTX 460 PC running Win 7 x86 just had the game crash right at the end of my first GOOD game. After probably six attempts over three days and possibly ten+ hours of gameplay I have finally gotten to where I can work Sins- with one of the races.

So when I'm having my first truly successful victory 3 v 3 with my population half-capped and 7 planets developed, two hours invested with a huge fleet including teammates who are actually communicating for once instead of just slinging profanities forming a massive doom crusade and it just CTD's right as our group is about to make it's first massive conflict...

Well, it's like watching two hours of a movie but not seeing the ending. It blows. I see that these posts are fairly recent, and I will not be devoting any more time to playing until there is some official response; because the time investment even at the highest play speed just isn't worth it. In that time I could play a dozen Starcraft 2 matches, and it would be a much more exciting (though admittedly less engaging) waste of my evening.

That said I sincerely hope this gets addressed so I can get back to playing because Sins is probably the most satisfying game I have ever played when all the pieces do fall into place.

I fucking wanted that replay.

E: I <3 this game and I'm nto working tomorrow. Who the fuck am I kidding? It's like crack right now.

I would suggest you all set yourselves down to the lowest settings. I admit I'm blowing hot air here, but this seems like a memory issue. If it's an outright leak obviously that will not help (and you should have bought the 16Gb, hah) but if it's directly related to how the game handles it's visual assets with your graphics card it might mitigate the issue (who knows).

Based on an I have no idea what to do strategy.

BlueJay - if that was you I was playing a 3v3 with last night, I have the replay saved if you wanted it. I warn you though - it's 4 hours long lol. The opponents were asshats who refused to quit, turtled up, spammed a bazilion mines, lagged like crazy, tried to insult us throughout, etc. But we finally won. I thought it was weird you left when you did but a MD makes sense.

Not to really bump this thread, but I"m currently getting the same problem and it's really frustrating.

It's like playing a temporary demo of a game that freezes the game RIGHT when you get ultra-absorbed into it and bam. The demo time runs out and you're sitting there, sad and angry.

Yeah, that's a good way to put it. I can't wait for the patch. I haven't played in so long.

I wasnt having minidump issues until the new patch. Now I am. Anyone hear anything back yet?

Does it help to make the .exe  large address aware on my 32b OS? I have seen that in many minidump threads.

LAA is a dice roll at best. It may work for you, it may not. You can try it, and see for yourself, but keep a backup of your game just in case. LAA will not fix the late game cpu lag issue.

Turn shadows to low (or off for MP games). Bump your graphic settings down a little. Turn bloom, and ship mesh highlight filter off. You really don't need them. Especially in a mp game.

Late game lag is a known issue that has been with us since original sins. Basically just a single core of your CPU is running everything in game. There are many topics about this already, and its a beaten dead horse issue. Sins is a 32 bit single core game, and its gonna stay that way. I personally have been trying to find ways to deal with it (if you havnt noticed the TSOP topics), and i am trying to help the dev's fight the issue too.

Does this work at all or have anything to do with the MiniDump issues some of us are having Major Stress? If not, would Yarlen or someone else at Stardock please mention what you guys are doing to help with that? So far theres been precious little info from the company about how they plan to quash the minidump issue. I was playing this game every-day till this happened, now I don't even want to touch Rebellion because im afraid my work will just get nuked half-way through a game. Also, Rebellion Support is taking almost a week now to respond to my ticket on the issue. Thanks for being so responsive guys! A nice "hey, thanks for sending us the info! We will help you out once we figure this out!" would be nice. But so far, crickets. Even in this thread.
