ConvertXsi and Softimage 2012

Hey guys, I was working on a mod for a school project and noticed something weird.

I have a 64 bit desktop with windows 7 and i was running the softimage 2012 trial (working on getting an educational license).  When I exported as a .xsi and tried to convert it to a .mesh, the mesh file does not recognize any of the vertex's or the material.

I tried exporting using ascii version 3.5 and 3.5 with still no luck, and i made sure that nothing was selected and that the export scene root button was checked.

I even tried just exporting the model and nothing else in the scene and I still got no vertex's (vertex count = 0)

I then took the file and opened it on my 32 bit laptop running windows 7 and exported it using mod tool 7.5 and it worked fine, got the texture and everything.

Seems like convert xsi does not like softimage 2012 for some reason, unless its a 64 bit problem

Yeah, its actually better to use the softimage mod tool from around 2009 or something. Seems to be the ones the Devs had in mind when they wrote that program, and if you use 3.6 ascii you shouldn't have any problems.

I was using 3.6 ascii in softimage 2012

Now im using mod tool 7.5

ConvertXSI was originally designed to work with XSI 6.0, and hasnt been changed, or updated since the forge tools 3 set was released. It will work with Mod Tool, and XSI 7.5, but it has been known to cause some random minor mesh errors. I dont know if it will work with Softimage 2011+

Just know ConvertXSI was designed to convert meshes made with XSI 6.0. Unfortunately you will need a Windows XP machine to use XSI 6.0, because it doesnt work in Vista or Windows 7.

Depending on what your doing you should be fine.

I've used XSI 7.5 for all my models. The biggest issue I've had occasionally is odd tangents which can usually be corrected.

works fine with 2010 64 bit :D

I've had issues with Softimage 2012 as well; I made the mistake of using that to try my first rigging attempt. Needless to say I use 7.5 now.

I just wanted to post it up so that people in the future would not waste time trying to do things in newer versions of softimage :)
