Installing Maps - Diplomacy/Mods

I tried throwing the map files I downloaded into the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge location, as I've read on these forums, but when I load up the game only two of the fourteen maps show up in the map selection screen. I tried downloading the updater thing to try and make sure that the other maps are up to the current format, but the Map Conversion tool from this site's download page says that I'm playing an old version and need to update (despite having the latest patches.)

Am I missing a step in installing these player made maps? Also, do I need to do anything else to play these maps with a mod active (specifically Distant Stars mod?)

As said above, I'm playing Diplomacy (original and then bought the doublepack of the expansions, if that matters,) and am patched up-to-date.
