Star Player's 1v1 Invitational! (You're Invited too!)

see information!

SATURDAY WORKS BETTER FOR MOST, gonna host it then!

The 1v1 Invitational will be hosted on and Saturday January 30th.

I will be using a system much like March Madness for all that are familiar to that, i will use a random generator with all the names for your first match.

if enough people do not want to use a random generator, and want to use seedings, i could do that too, but i doubt we will have too many people.

the point in this 1v1 "Invitational" is for all of those that want to learn from the best can get a bunch of good replays, and for all of those who really want to see the real best player on sins.

The map will be "Small Random Map", and i know that people complain that there are bug starts, but in order to be the best, you have to be adaptive, and clever.

Anyone who is interested please give me your time in Greenwich Mean Time (i'm not british, but most people can convert it to there) that you can be online on Friday night, Saturday will be reserved for any matches not finished on Friday.

Why not do it on a custom map or one of the standard non-random 1v1 maps to insure that no one gets dicked over on their starting position?  Gaian Crescent would be a good map for this.

DirtySanchezz's "Asteroid Belt" map and my "Escalation" map are great 1v1 selections.  Heck, I'd sign up to have my ass handed to me by a pro if it were on my own galaxyforge creation :-D

haha. well, if enough people want to i will change the map

Haha, I'm down for this.  Ill keep in touch

Why not use my observer close encoutners map so we can get some spectators :O

because close encounters isn't really balanced for all the races

R smurfs allowed?:P

This is more like it, well done StarP!

For 1v1 competitions we should really have at least one standard custom map, perhaps all the map makers could get together on a single thread to produce a single map?  Of the ones I've made so far 'Double Edge' is perhaps my best.

The 'Asteroid' map is to be dropped from the compilation, so it seems peculiar to recommend it?

'Escalation' has the great advantage of being multi-system and with a wormhole, helping the existing Vasari.  I'm not keen on the direct home-home route via the stars though, and it doesn't have any volcanics- or specials like magnetic clouds and plasma storms.  How about a revised version of the map, with a volcanic between the home and the wormhole, and also a dead asteroid between the home and star?  Also, perhaps two ordinary phase lanes between the systems rather than one?  Darvin?

I considered Storm Front of the existing set maps, though it might be small.  Gaian Crescent seems okay, though it might be rush-prone.  Still, it might be far more enjoyable to watch how the top players deal with the same map, rather than have all the games played on different maps?

After playing Sanchez on the map, I decided against removing it.  That should imply why I'm recommending it.

As for Escalation, I'm happy with the map as-is.  If I were to make a map as you are describing, I'd rather create something new from scratch.  Although it appears that your homeworld is vulnerable to an attack via the star, it's actually protected because of the angles.  You have to travel the long way across both stars, which takes a lot of time.  It's actually easier to go for that asteroid on the far side as a result.  I've seen homeworld attacks on this map pretty frequently, and they tend to fizzle because there is SO much warning time as the fleet meanders across the two solar wells that you can easily be ready for them by the time they arrive.  It's your own fault if you get blindsided...

I like the idea of collaborating to create "one map to rule them all".

well if you can get one map to rule it all easily downloadable by friday i'll use it, but if not, i'll probably use a random

We'll put the link to the map download on this thread.  Friday no problem.  Is a small multi okay?  On a single star map not all the civic techs are in play.

From the set maps Centrifuge can also be played 1v1, and might be another good option.

a single star map would be ideal, but if you post both i will see and check it out. thank you

Here's the link for my multi candidate map, there's a layout jpg included with the zip:

http://www.easy-share.com/1909120444/Sphinx.zip

It goes into Documents and Settings/[user name]/Local Settings/Application Data/Ironclad Games/Sins.../GalaxyForge

You may need to unhide hidden folders to be able to see the path.

If the map still doesn't appear once pasted into the folder, try pasting it into the normal Sins../Galaxy folder and adding the map to the bottom of the list in the galaxy.manifest file in Sins../Entrenchment:

fileName "Sphinx"

Also increment the fileCount at the top of the galaxy.manifest by +1.  This second method is only necessary if the first fails, but one should succeed, and the map will then be available to play.

is this a vas map ...

Would you pick Vasari for it, rather than Advent, if you had to play StarP?  Also, what sort of map would you consider to be a TEC map, I could use an angle on that?

If there's only going to be a few elite entrants, will you play games in sets, like Advent-Vasari then Vasari-Advent?  If you're all Advent then it won't be as useful for replays.

i'm planning to play TEC for this tournament or atleast a few games

After much discussion and deliberation, i am proud to present the final draft of the map.

I have two questions for anyone familiar with galaxy forge, how do i make it so the wormholes are connected.

AND

the most important question is where do i put the map so it can be downloaded by players in the tournament

THANK YOU ALL FOR HELP, SUPPORT,

Star Player

Connect them with a regular phase lane.  Select the phase lane by clicking on it.  In the "properties" field there will be a field called "connection type".  Change it from PhaseLane to Wormhole.

Any webhosting service will do.  You can always use my friend's site, www.RTSCommunity.com.  I have admin powers over there and can fast-track you approval for you.

i tried to host it on filefront yesterday and i struggled because apparently when somebody tried to download it, it was a text file.  i dont have problems with my replays, but had one hosting the map

I used datafilehost.com for the maps I made recently, that seems to work.  No registration required for temporary downloads.

The install procedure for the map should be the same as the one I outlined above- what is the map name?

Try putting it in a zip folder and then uploading that.

yeah man, the tournament was about a 4 out of a 1-10 scale for success.

things were looking up, quite a few people, but, people lied about who won! we'll need to make a map with spectators so people can referee haha...
