There is a quick "hack" way, make your favorite picture into a DDS file, using a converter...

Get a file converter program off the internet, step 1 :CONGRAT:

Also, if you are making a texture for an existing ship, use the original texture files as a template, using the existing configuration to plan out where and how your textures should go.

(yes, I have no proper program, XSI mod tool crashes my computer X-(
Autodesk is the wrong format, others are exotic unworkable formats, etc

You could try changing the pointers on the Mesh to point to different files, I made a nice New York Planet from a New York city map, also used a Borg wallpaper for a nice Uber-City Planet :) (the planets are easy, the ships are a lot harder to match up edges)

I'm sure the next responder will tell you which programs will do it properly...

Here's a site (I found a minute ago) that has a mesh editor AND a separate Texture Editor program, It looks to have all the right features, haven't tried it yet, but already downloaded...

Try thisWWW Link

I googled these words to find it: 3D mesh creator

Hope it's the proper tool you want...
(again, next responder will have better information as they actually use such tools)

Impeccable guesswork, helio!

I myself find Mesh maker a little annoying. I CS3 some basic textures, if I have the time.

Sorry about that particular file suggestion, I'm sure XSI would be better, or any number of other things... (Just installed .NET 2.0, so I will retry XSI)

I seem to make Mesh Maker crash (sometimes) when trying to delete polygons, so saving OFTEN might be a good idea...

If anyone knows of better programs for 3D (Autodesk works fine (It's the same format as MeshMaker), I just can't seem to get the file into anything that SINS will recognize), please tell me :)

Thanks Dec, I'll try CS3, and see what it does :)
