This game SCREAMS for campaign!

This game SCREAMS for campaign!

May be in expansion pack?

I am playing and really enjoying this game, but I think the creators missed a golden opportunity to create campaign here. The game itself is so well suited for campaign it is not even funny, it is better suited to have campaign than any RTS I know. Here are the reasons:
1) The game is extremely complex. It is the most complex RTS I know up to date. Each race has so many research items; each ship has so many abilities that I am still lost. Having campaign could gradually introduce player into each race abilities, thus making the leaning process much more fun.
2) Each game takes a long time, longer than any RTS that I know. That means that the campaign could have been played on the same map for quite long time, with new missions and things. So that you would not have to play the multiple new maps with some intermission in between, each time doing the same base build up over and over...
3) At the same time, the pace of the game is not chaotic as with most RTS game, it is more like TBS, so the player could chill out and get more involved into story line than with the clickfest.
4) It would be a perfect way to show off the beauty of the game. I mean in skirmishes you do not often put cinematic mode and zoom into the battle - you have to do the battle itself. But the game engine is so powerful! With everything at max, I can see so huge battles and each ship is shown in so much details! Granted I have powerful card (8800FTX) I still think game could show off lots of beauty even with moderate system.

So, sign here if you want expansion pack with campaign, or just post your opinion.

We need a campaign, sure it is a GOOD game as it is but a campaign could take the ranking from a 9.0 (GameSpot.com) straight to a 9.5-9.9! SoaSE has great pontentail to be THE BEST RTS out there!

Yeah, this is my point :) You stole it! Why are other people always better with succinctness than I? :P

Personally I don't care about a campaign in 4X game, not only because they usually don't need one, but also because I rarely see one that is done in a way that I can agree with.

4X games tend to have deep and extensive gameplay, and unless it's done dynamically I want no part of it. For example, I own Dread Lord and Dark Avatar, played and enjoyed them throughly but do you know how many campaign missions I played? ONE, since after finishing the first state and the second one is loaded, I see my research tree is reset my immidiate and permanent reaction was: screw this. :p

Thats why they should call the plain maps "Scrimmage" just have a seperate section like normal games!! Such as Supreme Commander (RTS), There is a Campaign, Scrimmage, and Multiplayer.

I would like to see campaign writers break the mould here and have the player retain learned research in subsequent chapters. It has never made any sense to me that a player loses everything they have learned when moving on.

Yes - I personally would hate to have my empire comprised entirely of amnesiacs :P

I share your opinions on GalCiv2 (I don't have the expansions), but I believe the general consensus (correct me if I'm wrong) is that this is more of an RTS than 4x (though I personally believe the 4x elements that do exist make the game so much better - I'm not sure if this is also a general consensus, but meh), and therefore warrants the campaign more. Considering the fantastic context of Homeworld and what its makers made of its campaign, perhaps something similar could be done in this case, especially with the Vasari pursuer. This appears to be the attitude of the expansion and its campaign.

Nah, sorry. Nothing is more effective than randomness for replayability.

Just my opinion...!  :D

It may be called 4X game but it is RTS game. It is not that far from other RTS games. And good RTS games have good compains. I do not know why people argue that it should not be done here. It should, but is it even in plans? I mean the next expansion still will not add compaign. That's just lost $$ opportunity, because there are much more single player gamers than multiplayer gamers, and they are not going to pay for few extra units in expansion if there is no campaign.
