Capital Ships Underpowered?

Does anyone else thing that the capital ships are underpowered? They just seem to take a hell of a lot of time to kill a frigate, it takes AGES! I thought it'd be quite an easy and fast kill. Also they seem a little to small compared to other ships for my liking...... Thoughts?

1) which race are you using?
2) which ship?

the TEC focus mainly on direct weapons fire on the kol and marza, so you shouldnt consider them weak unless somethings wrong... but the Vasari and Advent are highly ability-dependant, their ships get VERY VERY powerful late game when they have upwards of 5 levels, at that point they are golden nuggets of pwnage, unless of course you mess up by losing them constantly :P

Ships arent supposed to die fast in SOASE, because it is a massive game, which would make it tediuos to manage battles in medium to larger maps.
And IMO Capital Ships are far from weak, underpowered for their price I dont know, since im not really into the system that much yet (and hopefully never have to be, as im sure Stardock will take care of every balance issue as time goes. Remember, Starcraft was balanced for 10 years, and probally still is being polished to make it as perfect as it can be ^^!).

I must admit I only had two to three levels max with the Advent capitals. One was some sort of battle ship the other I think was called something destroyer, sorry can't remember the actual names. It just felt like it was taking ages to reduce shields/hull of some TEC frigates. Yes I did lose mine constantly ;)

Maybe I'll give it another go.............

One more thing, how do you change the capital ship's name?

Cheers.

You don't want them to be too powerful otherwise someone will just build the most powerful capital ship in there arsenal and send it at you early in the game and there would be nothing you could do to stop it except intercept with your most powerful capital ship. Then who's ever capital ship dies first looses.

No I think the capital ships are just right the way they are now.

The only thing I would like the devs to change is to make the ships take damage either per hit or at least make the health bar drop some what gradually. Its kind of annoying to see your ship launch three torpedoes and have all the damage happen on the first hit. Same with the rest of the multi projectile weapons like the cannons...

but its not a make or break for me.

I personally prefer the carrier, as it has a LOT of fighters at the higher levels, and early on bombers can do quite a bit of damage (combine it with the manta ray for extra fun!)

in any case I have a question: why are all the advent fighters and bombers a solid turqoise color? shouldnt they have, oh I dont know, parts?

Click on the ship or planet you wanna rename and then click on the small button directly above the portrait view in the center of the bottom UI.
Also says how on page 18 in the manual.

i think the reasoning is that they're expendable drones made by psytech, so it's the easiest way to make them.

Capital ships are supposed to work with conjunction with fleets of frigates, and to a lesser extent, cruisers, not be amazing one ship wreaking teams. For instance, look at the Advent Carrier. It sports a lot of fighters and bombers for defending the fleet against over bombers and attacking the opposing fleet, but needs frigates and cruisers to take out the anti-strike craft frigates. It also has the energy weapon buff on it.

no that makes no sense, they are supposed to be drones that are controlled by psytech (why else would you need "massive bays")
and in any case I really dont want to deal with bland looking fighters :P

totally.

It's pretty easy to figure which one is the "I kill stuff lulz" ship and the "I support stuff" lulz ship. Anyways, how long do you think it would take a star destroyer to go down? It makes perfect sense. Also, when you have 30-40 LRM frigates things explode pretty quickly.
