Galaxy Forge Bug

Instant Defeat?

I tried creating my own little solar system using the Forge. It seems that whenever I try to load it into the game it results in an instant 'Defeat' screen.

This also happens with the tutorial map from Zoomba - load it into the game, 'play' -> as soon as the loading is finished: Defeat.

Same thing is happening to me. At first I thought I was due to my tampering with a map created by map designer, but funny thing is, that i tried to play the map that loads a as a base to work from when launching the Forge, and INSTANT DEFEAT again. Solutions?

Wow I did a few maps in game and they work fine. I guess I'll have to try the GF and see what the difference is between the in game builder and the GF.

I tried another thing. Used the ingame designer to generate a map, loaded it into the Forge, saved and ... instant defeat.

So, basically, the Forge isn't usable currently.

Did you perchance remove the homeworlds and not add new ones?

I for one can say that i have def placed two homeworlds for the corresponding players, and I think that this can't account for the "starting out map" when launching the Forge. I could upload a picture if i knew how..

just as pnd said, just load a generated map into the Forge, maybe shorten a few phase lanes, and bingo insta-defeat

and another thing i noticed.. i saw wormholes connecting different star systems in a random map, in the Forge however I am unable to connect wormholes from different systems-

just rechecked --- Homeworlds are def okay

can you post the map file somewhere? it's probably something that seemed obvious and we didn't explain well :S

I could be so daring and upload it to the official map downloads section.. I have no other means. This map is actually totally crazy, but my first other tries with a reasonable yet challenging layout yielded the same results...

It happens with the base 'blank' map and the tutorial map, but in any case...

Here are three files that produce the error:

Custom map
Blank starter map
Tutorial map

Is there any debug file that I could post as well?

Are you disabling the AI player when you load a map to test?

I load it as i would normally.

I got the exact same thing.

I created a complex map at first, and it was immediate "Defeat".

I figured - Maybe to complex?
After the third time I followed the tutorial exactly -
I opened galaxy forge, added only the phase lanes to the default planets - no other changes, and saved.

Again, same thing - Defeat.

I click the continue button just to see the map at that point, and it was empty.
The two planets that Galaxy Forge showed didn't show up in the game at all.

All the maps I created in GF, none of them showed any planets in the game. This is after I clicked continue after the defeat screen.

I had the beta previously, before I installed I uninstalled the beta.

Was anyone else who has the problem a beta tester?

I'm hoping its just a simple file left over and easily fixed.

I can't upload any maps right now though as I'm not at home where I was playing it last night.

I had same issue when I made a scratch map. It let me edit some of the scnario maps fine so its probably something not being set. I got bot defeat and victory instant popups (Had 2 homeworlds). Maybe too many planets in one system? (had about 10). I wasn't a tester. On the 2 Victory ones I did see planets. I was thinking maybe it was a planet template problem?

I've tried this on two different machines now and can't get the problem to reproduce.

The only time I get the instant victory screen is when I disable the other AI player so it's just me in the game.

I guess you are lucky then... We suffer defeat whereas you are victorious

How abou freintalling the Game like i do when someting does'nt work...(Althought Supreme Commander Got something majorly wrong for not leting be play now...) It just might work

I'm actually against reinstalls, especially with such a fine-crafted game like SoaSE. I don't think that's it.

I'm curious about this too. I've tested a couple of these and they all seem to work fine. Are you all beta testers?

The problem is not the file, or the map, but where you put it. If you put it in "install directory"\Galaxy it works fine. If you put it in the "local settings"\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire\galaxy directory, you have that problem.
So there is nothing wrong with Galaxy forge.

I was with the beta since middle last year. Beta3 i think. But on this very PC (which is new) I only had beta4 installed. But I properly uninstalled it before installing the final.

Just read the post above mine. But shouldn't it matter since this is where ingame created maps are naturally stored?

I just tested it. Although the Galaxy looks nothing like what i planned it to be, (distances still elude me) it actually worked that way. Doesn't that mean it's gamecode related?

Yep, Netriak has got it. I have no idea why yet, but I'll find out. For now you can save it in the other folder.
Don't know why it makes a difference, but it does. Maps that are not created with the ingame map designer work solely when put in the galaxy subdirectory located in the install directory.

Great catch Netriak!

OK... apparently this is by design - the other galaxy folder (under local settings) is only for the ones that are made by the in-game map designer.

So I guess the fix is... don't put them in there :P We should probably have some tests to prevent you from loading those ones.

Thanks guys
