Okay, from what I am seeing, there are several good points. Making the AI less exploitable, that would be a good thing. However, watching how the AI moves and then restarting to a previous save to keep what they did from happening, thats not a very good thing. The game is meant to be fun and to challenge players. If you exploit the AI and use that knowledge to get to the top, then your not really the best, I would prefer to work to the top rather than taking the easy route.

Steelados, he isn't using a save/reload. He already knows what the AI does, and just stops it from working, forcing a suicidal AI to play like it was at easy.

Incidentally, thanks to unfunf Stardock now know about 2 major security flaws, one to do with MV loopholes (which would have allowed me to beat your precious empire in 5 games TBAY) and the other to do with stealing serial numbers.

CariElf [Stardock] I wish you would have posted something on this forum as to your plans to allow the unfun guy to conduct his experiment before he was let loose on the metaverse and the forums. I had no idea that you had given him your support until after the fact. I do not visit the neo-tech site or any of the other sites where you and the devs spend your free time. He was recruiting for his experiment on our empire thread and his tactics angered 3 of our best players. If I had Known he was doing a project for you I would have been more diplomatic. I still think it is a power trip for him. The arrogance in his posts is blatantly obvious. Have you read all of his posts? To be honest, I believe I will stay out of playing metaverse very soon. I can't use a lot of mods I like using. Don't worry about another "power trip" .

TBAY, I've had enough of your bullshit. Shut up, and listen to a few facts.

1) You are FAR more arrogant and agressive than unfunf. Oh, and less intelligent too. It's a shame my response to your last flame of me was deleted, I would have loved to see you attempt to answer. It's also pretty much universally agreed that your empire started the flaming after he was looking for some help.

2) He had to figure out the exploits properly, so proper testing had to be done. Now he has them down to an art, they are already sent off.

3)The only "deal" made was AFTER he offered to send his findings to Cari. She then offered to have a word with the head of merchandise, since he is contributing to the game as a whole. He offered to do this work (which it is) for free, for the sake of improving the AI.

4) We told you repeatedly that the devs, Cari in particular, knew and supported him. A forum moderator told you as much. If you weren't so damned arrogant yet idiotic (see point 1) then this wouldn't be a problem.

5) Keep this crap up, and I myself WILL exploit the algorithms and everything else I have been shown, and I will beat your entire empire hands down. Then we shall see how your best players react.

Unfunf has made his peace, and if I may say after a clumsy initial post, he has done it largely in an eloquent and reasoned way.

Lets get the experiment out of the way, probably fix a few loopholes and then get back to playing "properly".

I think the one thing it shows is that the scoring is exploitable... and I'm sure everyone who is near the top of the league has used some "exploit" to make sure their scores are good ones. The problem with unfunf's "exploit" is that it has a huge impact on scoring, unlike many of the others regularly used by "expert players".

I'm getting angry because Tbay is a troll, nothing more. He is arrogant and ignorant, and a complete and utter hypocrite. I spend more time away from this site and at Neotech thanks to people like him just clogging up the forums with crap. I originally joined this site to help new players, not get involved in moronic flame wars.

In fact the forum is quiet really. I read more or less all new posts in about 10mins a day.

Yes. It really, really is. Because once the AI has been halted it's like playing at easy.

And yes, the forum has been quiet. When the front page boasts a thread that has not seen a reply for 8 hours, that's rather bad news. Considering most of these seem to involve discussions of unfunf, and to be more precise Tbay flaming unfunf, it's fair to say the forum is dying with the fact this place is starting to become a flame board.

Speaking of the forums. Their recent changes broke them for FireFox users. Are their any plans to fix them, I hate using IE.

Tuesday I posted my first Metaverse game, yesterday I got my ranking of 120, but I'm still not seeing my medals in the forums. Do I have to do something or will they appear in a few days?

You have to go to My Account ->Edit My Characters and press the "Default" button for your character. It's the button below clear scores or edit player (whichever button is last). It's hard to see. Hover your mouse over it and it will appear.

Unfunf's first reply in your thread was to give an explanation about what he was doing to get such high scores, because someone had asked.  He did not make any comments that could be construed as recruiting until after he was already called a cheater.  Also, since you can have multiple characters that can belong to multiple empires, it's not as if he was really hurting you by recruiting.  Furthermore, people were asking him what he was doing; he probably wouldn't have said anything that could be construed as recruiting if people hadn't asked him about his methods in the first place. 

As Marcathonas said, I did not make an offer to unfunf until after he started his experiment, and it was in the chat room, not on another forum.  Even if I made a deal with him beforehand, I would have seen no need to publicly advertise it.  And if I had, you probably would have just started a flame war anyway. 

If I find out that someone is using exploits, I ask them nicely if they will tell me what they are doing so that I can fix the exploit.  Ever hear the saying you get more flies with honey than vinegar?  If, however, someone posts their strategy publicly online, I hide the thread so that we won't have scores of people using the tactic. 

Frankly, the only reason that I got involved in this little flame war is because some of you are getting way too sensitive and intolerant and I want to make the point that you don't have to start a flame war to express that something is bothering you.

Another Metaverse recalc and I move up to #67 and was made a sentor in the Overmind empire! All from just one game posting! Cool!

Playing a gigantic map, every abundant, 9 opponents, level Painful was too easy although a micro-management pain with over 200 planets. I started a new game on level Masochistic; I'll see how well the AI performs with the higher bonuses and the first strike advantage removed.
