What if Bill Gates gave you money?

Ok, I was asked this question a couple weeks ago in an "in-class" write... (For Writing 95) I'll post the paper asap... But i thought i would ask you JU'sians first...

What if, you found out that bill gates was a long lost... "cousin", and he gave you an unlimited amount of money...what would you do?

An unlimited amount of money?

I'd cause inflation the likes of which the world has never seen, and then exploit the resulting chaos to establish a totalitarian dictatorship whose only currency was the blood of my enemies, drunk directly from their skulls.

I'm sorry, but it seems like a stupid question to me. Wouldn't it be more productive and enlightening to ask students to write about their plans to accomplish something good using the resources they actually have, rather than asking them to fantasize about what they'd do if they had Real Ultimate Power? It's assignments like this that leave our youth with totally unrealistic ideas about how to make the world a better place, and gives them no practice at all in developing realistic plans to do good things with the resources actually at their disposal.

Here's an essay question for you: what would you do with the time and money you have today?

It wasn't a serious write, it was just a pre-test to see our style, etc... Then we do another one after the term winds down.

Actually that's pretty deep. Many people whine about not having enough time or money...then spend their time & money on short-term pleasures...

But if we take a second to step outside of ourselves to really survey our situation and resources...it could result in a moment of clarity and serious reflection. Now that would be a productive exercise for young college students.

NO FAIR Elie! Do you "know" where one could "acquire" that new body? I'd sell everything I have along with my very soul for that!

Ya know...I just happen to know a group who may be interested in buying that...yahoo?

I think in some ways mo' money means mo' problems.

Bill Gates doesn't have unlimited money, but he could probably give away more than a person could easily spend.

I'd take $200K a year. That'd be fine and dandy with me. Adrian could get out of the Army, we'd find us a big chunk of land in Texas, build a house, and buy some goats and other critters. I like my kids spoiled, but there's a point where you start screwing up their values by throwing money and gifts at them.

I suppose I could take a wee bit more to buy my parents a house and a boat for my dad...$300K oughta do it for that.

Sure, mo' money can = mo' problems.... but, you can dream/wish without the consequences....

And yes, i agree... but, like i said, this wasn't supposed to a serious question presented to us...just to be used as a way to grade our writing abilities...

And 200K ain't half bad... I myself wouldn't want a huge house, unless i had a huge family... I would be content in an apartment or studio .....

And thats one of my things....to make sure my family is financially sund....
