Market mechanics and resources

Hi,

I'm currently trying a game with the splendidly evil Xraki and now winning easily. But I have been waiting to build the Douglas Adams tribute wonder the Restaurant of Eternity for - well an eternity it feels like.

The wonder requires 3 Aurorus Arboretum and 3 Artocarpus Viriles. I have plenty of Aurorus and can in any case send  a Xylology expedition to gather some if necessary or trade for it with other factions. But the map seems to be completely devoid of Artocarpus (nobody has ever had any to trade so maybe it's on one of the minor faction's worlds if at all) and I don't think there's an expedition for it is which you tech up to?

In any case the market price is 850 so I can buy at 850 and 1000 but still be one short. It's been stuck on 850 for the last, I didn't look when I started, but at least 30 plus turns.

So I've got two questions.

Firstly how long does it normally take before the price of an unbought item near the top level drops?

Secondly is it optimal to wait or to buy once at 850 to put it at 1000 and wait for that to drop or buy twice at 850 and 1000 and wait till it becomes available again at 1000?

Many thanks in advance to anybody who understands the mechanism.

Cheers,

Jon

Price is equal to Quantity available, there are 2 available to buy on the market (1 at 850 and 1 at 1000) so someone somewhere has access to this resource. You need to find who has this on a planet and conqure, culture flip, buy said planet. (The AI has probably not tech this up to have a surplus).

If there was not any on the map, it would not be in the market.

Many thanks Horemvore.

I hadn't understood that it had to be somewhere on the map to be on the market (which makes sense now you say it but I thought of the market as a purely abstract construct.)

I never saw any available from a major race but I suppose that under the new (inglorious) surrender rules a planet which had it may have been trashed. As for a minor race, surely if they were producing any then with +0.1 per turn they would have gone up from 2 to 3 in the course of so many moves which would have added another to the market.

Anyway, in the end it was still at 850 at turn 215ish as it had been at turn 175ish and I built the Ascension Gate on the tile I'd reserved for the Restaurant.

Cheers,

Jon

are there any limits to prevent the AI from selling rare resources ? they should be keeping a minimum of these in my opinion instead of cashing them out for a piddling 200 credits, if they hoard them , I would be hobbled

They always keep 1 that they will never ever trade. Atleast thats what the code says.

Hmm think it should be higher maybe 2 , but I have been able to trade for all of a resource... thanks buddy - Wales is my ancestors homeland btw !!
