I've got a good vibe about FE

I don't know about the rest of you but I've got a really good vibe about what Fallen Enchantress represents and how it will be received (knocking on wood so I don't put the moz on the project).

The devs are probably feeling a little gun-shy after the release of War of magic but I feel the whole approach this time has been well structured and above all - realistic. You can see there has been a lot of uncompromising heart and soul put into the development of Fallen Enchantress but the project benchmarks have been evaluated dispassionately. That is a really hard thing to achieve in a creative process but the Stardock team has shared this process with us so we've all been privileged enough to share the ride.

While none of us can have the same level of emotional attachment to the game as the devs do - this is the game that has dominated my horizons for years. There have been times when the beta process has frustrated me but overall it has been a rich and rewarding experience.

Thanks Brad, Derek and the rest of the crew for being so accessible and sharing the process to the extent you have with us.

And above all, good luck guys on the launch tomorrow. You deserve every success.

:)

Agree, Das. BTW, been watching your Crusader Kings II Let's Play. You need to go into radio, sir.

Yeah, I agree. For all the missteps of the past, I think they really did this one the right way. I think it will be well received. TBS gamers know a good TBS game when they see it and this game is great. I just hope the reviewers don't give it any stupid reviews based on ignorance and laziness.

I missed the whole beta and only got to play the very last one. My god this is the best computer game I've played in years.

I agree. Even in beta it was so hard to shut the game down. The good old one more turn syndrome is right back where it belongs! Only Civ IV got close to the immersion i'm getting from FE. Before that? I think all the way back to MOO 2 and MoM.

I have a better vibe about FE for the long haul than I do for tomorrow's release.

I'm hoping Stardock receives enough sales deemed suffcient enough to continue what they've started: Making the best 4x (and hopefully 5x) game ever.

Don't get me wrong. It's a decent game now. And there is huge flexibility for future development. But as is, there are still just too many small annoyances that exist. Too many imbalances. Too many shortfalls.

But like I said, by the end of their second expansion for this game....I REALLY see this being the best 4x (hopefully 5x) game of all time.

...

and I define 5x as a game that incorporates faction rpg storylines into the sandbox mode....just to clarify. ;)

yes, and das, i got into the beta a few months ago after watching your let's plays for Fallen Enchantress.  good stuff.

I don't think sales are going to blast off into the stratosphere. Most people will be smart to wait for the Metascore.

Hi Das123 and Sean3, good old chaps. Are you planning to start right on a new LP-video series when the game releases today? Hopefully yes! :)

Yes, but mine will be promotional for my mods. I don't plan on playing vanilla except for the scenarios. I figure Das123 can handle the vanilla intros. Hell, his sweet nectar of a voice will probably add +1 to the metascore.

Yeah, I am waiting for some lets play 1.0 films from the Das and the Sean :d

I am also very happy with this game, but I have a suspicion that its to clever for many reviewers. They will be whining about accessibility and stuff, just because its not like XCOM in its simplicity.

Lets hope I am wrong.

And remember to spread the word ppl. Tell your friends about this!!!

I'm a little worried because I haven't seen any chatter about the game outside of TBS haven forums.

For this game to sell, it's going to have to get some good word of mouth, and I have a feeling it's going to need a long tail.  That said, this game is more than capable of lasting and selling over time.

THis game is going to sell based on reviews and word of mouth, and hopefully the trolls don't hurt the game much.

I've cleared my current videos (got a couple more illustration videos for the next couple of days) then straight into FE. Really looking forward to playing the release version.

I played WOM through the beta up through release.  I played a few of the patched versions, but did not play the beta to Fallen Enchantress.  I'm really excited to see where they went with the series, and see how it stacks up.

As for being a financial success, time will tell.  Its currently sitting at #42 in steam sales - just below Counter Strike: Source and just above Fable 3 and The Witcher 2.  It should spike when it releases this afternoon - I'm guessing to the 15 spot, right below Torchlight 2 and the Dawnguard DLC. I suspect it will make most of its capital back at its first steam sale, after reviews have had time to sink in, the first post-release patch comes out, and the price drops.

In other words, I expect it to break even.  It has potential, but it doesn't have the gotta-have-it-before-it-goes-on-sale appeal.

That said, there was a lot of pre-release vibe about Elemental:War on Magic too. I am personally waiting to play the finished product and for the metascores and broader userbase feedback.

I listen to more classical music now as a result of watching your LP's. ;)
