Why did Steam force the 1.041 update?

ok, what the hell, kinda upset, but why did Steam force the 1.041 update?  I have mine set to not update, even double checked after the update in the steam client.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having a 'do not update game' selection doesn't it?

No idea, you'd have to contact Valve about that one. v1.041 is pretty minor, though.

The only other change is to temporarily disable Cloud Saves while we look into resolving reported bugs with that system.

Glad the Cloud save is being looked into. Got tired of the game crashing when I saved.

Steam forces all updates unless you are in offline mode. The 'do not update game' setting is just there for our amusement, apparently, because no one has ever gotten it to work in the 8 years Steam has been around.
