Sins Rebellion ICO Clan Support

Hi Sinners!

So one of the best way to get constant and detailed feedback regarding the game is to have a vibrant online community.  This is achieved by providing adequate clan support to the game's online base, ICO.

What I am requesting is a "Clans" tab on the left side of the ICO main menu.  Upon clicking this tab, a player would see a list of the clans in the Sins community, and their number of members.  Upon clicking an individual clan, there would be another window showing the full roster of the clan and their last active log in so as to gauge the activity of the clan.  It should also include a space for clan leaders to describe their clan, its goals, when it was founded, etc.  Other perks could include an "Apply to this clan" button, and a "Challenge to clan match".  The "Challenge to clan match" could only be done by a clan leader or a member with sufficient permission from another clan.  The challenged clan would receive a notification when they next log in.

Also, once you are in a clan, your clan should be able to put a logo up that would take the place of the default themes in the game.  Each clan member would have this logo as their theme (unless they choose otherwise, I guess).  Clan members should also be "tagged up" in that as soon as they are accepted into their clan, their clan tag gets put in front of their display name in brackets, for example:

Player name: Radioactive

Clan name: Dream Team

Clan Tag: [DT]

New display name: [DT]Radioactive

It's not perfect by any means but I wanted to put a few ideas on the table for discussion.  One of the biggest mistakes you guys (Stardock/Ironclad) made in Sins Vanilla/Trinity was that you let your online community be ravaged by bugs/minidumps/desyncs.  4 Years later and on the same engine, you have almost no excuse for failure.  If you want to have a steady supply of dump files, desynced saves, balance input, suggestions for expansions, among other benefits, you need to really allow for a thriving online scene that includes clan competition.

Heck, it will even help you sell more games down the road!

I would be very impressed if they could accomplish all of that.  It almost seems like something that should be built into Steamworks--a clan match system for each game.

Years ago when the original Unreal Tournament (UT99--first person shooter) was popular there was a site called The Proving Grounds that kept track of clan rosters, facilitated clan matches (right down to which 3 maps were to be played), and that recorded wins and losses and arranged a ladder.  Steam should set up something like that.  I'd be amazed if a game studio did something like that and included it with their game.

Maybe the coding for something like that could be done by summer interns.  ("How many interns does it take to change a light bulb?  Who cares, they're free!")

I agree in that adding clan/guild/group/whatever functionality would make Sins that much more user friendly. The way I see it, (if Sins was coded to be flexible), a clan tab should not be too hard to program in. Also, if the developers are to program this in the most basic way possible (almost no functionality other than being in a group of people), I can see this being done within two weeks.

The thing is, support for clan/guild/group/etc will make them additional money.  It will make their online service popular, create more buzz around their game, and thus they move more copies.  Why do you think starcraft is so successful?  They made the multiplayer into the greatest multiplayer RTS ever created where mundane custom maps see more play in one hour then sins see in one week.  This can change, we just need the support of Stardock to help create a great change for the community, and make them lots of $$$$$

I have never been a big pvper in this game mostly because I have never been much of a pvper in rts in general (fps is anoother matter:-)) Ruse being the exception. However an established system like this would bring me in...

It should have been implemented years ago

MP gets very little support from the devs, it would be nice touch if they finally added clan functionality.

RUSE was another great game I think ruined by similar flaws.  Poor online play that had no real true clan support except for outside tournaments.

This is more ambitious than Blizzards ladder system.  But it also sounds like a natural extension.  What about an external site that did all of that clan organizing but was not linked directly into steam or Stardock?  I wonder if there is already a piece of software in the public domain that could be, oh, I don't know, modded?

( backs out of the room slowly...   *_* *_*  )

Okay searched and found this for guilds...  I'm not affiliated in anyway with this site.  I don't have any experience with guilds are they like clans but for nerds?

I wend to look at that provingGrounds.com site.  It's some sort of laddering system.

Thanks, RedDwarf, it is my hope that Stardock can use many of these sites as a model for something that they can put in game.

I don't think bumping the thread all the time is going to cause the dev's to respond. Not in a positive manner at least...
