Sins: Rebellion Beta 1a Change Log

Now Available via Steam

We're pleased to announce the immediate availability of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion BETA 1a via the Steam client for all pre-order customers. This update is largely to fix the reported crash bugs, but also contains some minor balance adjustments. More substantial balance updates will be included in a future update.

Rebellion 0.61 Update Log:

[Graphics]

  • Updated TEC phase charge particles to be better optimized.
  • Fixed several lens flare bugs.
  • Fixed bad seam on the Moon texture.
  • Added center and above points to the Moon mesh.
  • Fixed other Moon texture issues.
  • Added proper Vasari Rebel titan shield mesh.
  • Greatly increased Titan debris on destruction.
  • Updated normal maps and team color textures on TEC Titan Factory, TEC corvettes and the TEC Corsev battlecruiser.
  • Made several skybox lighting adjustments.
  • Fixed missile point error on TEC Rebel Titan.

[ Gameplay ]

  • Fixed bug that would prevent players from building Titans.
  • Swapped tiers/dependencies on Pirate Mercenaries and Truce Amongst Rogues.
  • Fixed AI bug that made all AI capital ships get stuck in an endless Retreat loop. This was seriously gimping the AI, so things should be immediately improved.
  • Added newer ship retreat logic - this is a work-in-progress.
  • Fixed Research Warning bug.
  • Fixed crash bug on auto-spending ability upgrade points on Titans.
  • Fixed crash bug where capital ships and Titans would crash the game when retreating from a star.
  • Fixed phase jumping bug.
  • Fixed null pointer crash.
  • Updated TEC corvette movement - they should no longer run through enemy ships.
  • Changed Boarding Parties ability to no longer capture structures (per design). Boarding Parties will still inflict damage on structures.
  • Fixed a Game/Victory Options dialog button bug after loading a save game.
  • Fixed Attack Planet mission crash bug.
  • Fixed Novalith Cannon module crash bug.
  • Fixed exploit that would allow players to build multiple Titans.
  • Increased Titan build time to 450 seconds from 225 seconds.
  • Increased Titan build cost to 10,500 credits, 1,400 metal and 875 crystal.
  • Increased Fleet Supply cost of TEC corvettes to 2 from 1. Additional corvette balance changes will be coming in a future update.

[ Interface ]

  • Fixed positioning problem with Steam name/game name on ICO player info dialog.
  • Game should now load avatars and names of unknown players on ICO.
  • Moved build module circle down to match the rest of the gravity well.
  • Fixed bug where the Victory Tree would disappear.

[ Misc. ]

  • Fixed confusing string with offering missions text.
  • Updated Alloy related strings.
  • Fixed bug where inviting a new player to a multiplayer game before the player was created on ICO caused issues.
  • Updated various strings to make the new TEC Loyalist/Rebel technologies more clear.
  • Removed unused .dll and .bat files.
  • Fixed various string file typos.
  • Added "reb" suffix to save, stat, and record files.
  • Fixed several race-based achievements.

Excellent, however I'm not to happy truce amongst rogues has been changed. I seriously doubt it's usefulness in mid to lategame. (except in games with pirates of course).
End of Halos's quote

Agreed. Neutral planet defenders will be dead by then. Also, Pirates are a bigger threat in early game than in mid/late game.

I don't see it specifically mentioned on the list (unless maybe it is part of the tiers/ dependencies fix), but did the Rebel inability to capture the occupation victory planet after Truce Among Rogues is researched get fixed in this patch?

Did you read the post?
End of JohnJames's quote

Yes, but I didn't see it mentioned *facepalm*

Edit: Damn - does rightclick autospend points on abilities? I never knew!!! And I'm playing sins for ... forever it seems..... *facepalm self*

So that's not a new feature, eh?  Shows what I know....

Well that gives people a few more minutes to counter a titan rush at least. Something about Truce Amongst Rogues had to be done but that is going to be a real pain to balance, even if its available slightly to early its OP, slightly to late its useless. And now corvettes shouldn't be quite so lag inducing, even though their almost pointless to build now.

When will it be possible to play it in "Sandbox" mode, where its just you and Pirates ingame, with no other AI, i sometimes like to Free Build and just have a Relaxing Game, and Experiment with stuff
End of DraLUSAD1010's quote

I actually made a map like this for Rebellion where you still have the AI, but its homeworld is not connected to any other planets, so they will not be able to bother you. Sadly WinCustomize is taking forever to process new items/updates, as I've been waiting for over a week for it to get up. I will post in the Rebellion forum when it is however.

Why can I not install the update? Steam reports that Rebellion is "Ready to Play" and when I start the game and begin ICO Online it immediately reports "Old Version detected please ensure that you have the latest update." Can anyone assist? Thanks.

I haven't had a chance to look yet since I'm at work, but have they added any of the other races to play as yet?  nice patch, cant wait to try it and see how the AI acts now.  but Im not overly happy with the high cost of the Titan now.

Why do you still have a job then? work is for work home is for the pleasure of this game

Aww yeah, Titan build cost/time drastically increased. Definitely feels more inline with how powerful those things are.

Time to start a new testing cycle!
End of TheEvidence's quote

It won't be enough.

The stargate mod's Atlantis is bassiclly a titan in all but name and even if you don't abuse the free cap ship trick to get it free it can be got by the later mid game stage. And thats despite it being a Tech 5 research instead of Tech 4, and being some 25,000/2,000/2,400 in cost and a 720 second build time, (plus a more expensive longer research and 400 supply). Without at least a 2 level increase in the researches it's never going to come out at an appropriatte time. All this really does is stop titan rushing from game start. It dosen't do anything about people getting it well before somthing this powerful should actually be on the feild.

It effectively makes you immune to the Rebel summoning ability of other TEC players.

Titan changes help, but I'm not sure this was the right way to go about it.  Increasing the total cost and time is fine, but instead of putting all the cost upfront it would have made more sense to increase the tech level of the research from 1-4 to 3-6 or something.  This would spread the cost out over time instead of demanding a HUGE upfront cost, which makes it unreasonable to buy in 1v1 and 2v2.  Seriously, if you can afford to wait until you have 10,500 credits, 1,400 metal and 875 crystal - plus the 2 cap ship pop upgrades - in such game situations your opponent(s) is turtling too hard or you're playing a gigantic map.  Titans need to be a viable option in 1v1.  Rushing for one should be suicide of course, but teching for one needs to be a viable risk not an auto-loss.

What about making them weaker initially but having them scale extremely well?  Could be another direction.

They allready do, they scale roughly twice as rapidly as a normal capital, and deal attroicous amounts of damage, and are often very tough to kill. A TEC Loyalist with supporting repair cruisers and the first couple of armour upgrades in a freindly gravity well is quite capble of surviving for several minutes against a large LRM mass. Even without supporting firepower they deal enormous amounts of damage. Even at it's new cost it would take an attrociouslly large fleet to kill it before it could kill it's worth in enemy units. ESPECIALLY if your using somthing other than an LRM mass or Capital Mass to do it. It may be difficult to get, but it's still going to dominate anything your opponnent attempts.

How did you dix it, because I can't get steam to detect the update!

Nice fixes!  Now I think we might have more of an early game that isn't so titan spam centered.  +10 to developer balance.

Now time to test test test!

I think the structure capping should be back in and make it so that the capped structure works for the player who captured it. Think of capping a repair platform, defense turret, etc mid battle or a resource extractor. Or a novalith cannon and turning it ion its owner. Structure cappping adds another layer of tactics.

Awesome changes. Being a beta tester is rewarding!

anyone get this to run on windows 8 yet?
End of Uzberg's quote

They already said that they won't support Windows 8 yet.

Honestly I don't know why people are so eager to use Windows 8. Horrible UI and bloated. I think if they were to support another OS it should be OS X. Open it up to more users there.

Was the ships getting lost issue addressed?  IE.  Send ships to a planet gravity well then they would disappear off screen, resulting in a ship at a system on tabs but not physically there.

Thanks for the update was wondering when it was gonna hit.

When we can play with advent and vasari????? :(, I CANT WAIT ANY MORE TIME!!!! I Going to explode like an electrolytic capacitor!!!! :borg: \o/

it's going to be a while, from some pictures of their titans we've seen the loyalists are quite a lot of steps away from complete as their titan is still using a lot of placholder UI and weapon FX elements. Also be prepeared for a shock. You probably haven't noticed it at the artifact planet, but their fighters now use pulse beams instad of phase missiles.

I detected one most pretty serious bug.

When enemy Akkan Battleship activating Armistice Ability, My Ragnarov Titan can shoot at targets within the coverage Armistice range with snipe Ability. But hitting targets dont receive damages after their hit by snipe ability. Please erase that bug, and possibilty to destroy targets by snipe ability.
