How to chase or run away with Capitals

I am considered skilled and have no problems joining skilled game.

But there is one aspect of the game I cannot get grip on

How to chase or run away with Capital ships.?

There are 2 possible commands move order and attack order. Question i have is when to use which and when you decide to use one do you issue order in rapid succession (similar to how to get vasari SB into the mids of enemy fleet) or is one order enough. Or do you switch between move and attack order in rapid succession.

I am terrible in this aspect of game and I need some enlightenment.

All I can say is that if you play then game long enough you should get a feel for which order is better.

The key to this is knowing the units and how they do with moving and firing.  If it is a carrier cap and most of its DPS is strike craft then it does not matter as much where you are facing and you can move about freely without having to worry about placement.  Move command is almost always more important with caps anyways because very few caps are forward arc only firing(marza for one) and you can only focus fire with a fraction of its dps anyways with the rest.  A lot of times I will forsake focus firing on anything with caps anyways because I want to have them pointed towards the closest well edge to run if I need to.  In chasing with caps it is generally better to use move commands rather than fire commands as well.  A lot of units like to stutter step(stop moving when they get in firing range and then start moving again when they exit firing range) and thus lose DPS as a result.  With units like LRF, they will usually fire while you run anyways and it does not matter if you move or run because they will still shoot.  With units like LF it matters a lot because they tend to not fire while they are moving.  They will fly fast to catch up then stop to shoot and then fly without shooting again when the cap gets farther away.  Hope that answers your questions.  If you need me to go further in depth, then just send me a whisper when you are online.

Consider the definition of the 'attack' command as 'Fire if target is in range. If not, move until in maximum range, then fire'.

If you're using move command to chase caps, they will fire anything in range. In this scenario they have no specific 'target' because you haven't specifically told them to fire on the cap. Instead, they are primarily concerned with speedily getting to a specific point in the grav well.

With these in mind, you can see that neither are necessarily the 'better' way to chase cap ships because it depends heavily on the situation and, as implied by greyfox, unit type. Use attack command if you are absolutely sure cap ship won't get away. If you think it will get away, and you're desperate to take out the cap, use the move command to catch up with it.

With regards to escaping with any unit for that matter, it is faster to press shift, right click on exit point of the grav well, followed by exit grav well. This is as opposed to just telling it to leave grav well in one click. But the time difference between these command sets diminishes as the unit starts at a closer point from the grav well edge.

as soon as you get into the game lobby, type "power overwhelming".  This makes you invincible.  That should be a big boost.  "operation cwal" removes fog of war and "there is no cow level" automatically defeats your enemy.

enjoy!

This might be a big boost but its not big enough, it should be about two times as powerful as it currently is.

I thought this one made a phase lane from your home world to an urban planet with a grav-well bonus of 10x XP and a garrison of 200 siege frigates.
