% of wins

Hi

I found Demigods at an old fashion LAN party for oldies (Im 36) just a few months ago. I was hooked instantly!

It took me quite some time to get into all things. My way of doing things is to learn by trying. So my first 50-100 games was quite interesting since I learned alot, but of course did not perform so well (lost pretty much every time unless my team was much better then the other. Also, I dont mind going 1v1 even if it looks like I will loose....

I Learn.....but my % of course looks very low. I was down to 20% at one point.

Now. 170 games and 30% wins, I am a medium player. I wouldnt call me kick ass since I still need to get faster and learn more.

HOWEVER, I am not a newbie, which seams to be the category I get in when I go into a game. People see 30% wins and go "noob". The only good about this is when I do get accepted by a team and win in kills, and is a major reason for the team win. Also, killing those who called me a "noob" kinda feels fun ;-p

I am a teamplayer. Something I have seen VERY few are. Most people play for themselves, or scream on others, heh. Mostly these are the people who calls "me" a newbie ;-).

Why this post? I am tired to be called a newbie. Sure, lets say we have 100 players, I would be around rank 40.

When you do meet me, or anyone else for that matter with a low %. Dont just assume their crap.

Try me out...

Lol@your Taekwondo friend. I've trained in Taekwondo for 17 years and kickboxing also for about 5 years. It is really fun to fight the 'tournament' trained people as they cannot take a hit or give one hard enough to scare a fly. Taekwondo tournament is actually a game of 'tag'. Touch the target on the opponent for a point. Kickboxing... well no amount of flick kicking will stop that hook punch knocking you the hell out lol.

*I'm reminded of a story one of my friends told me years ago. He was big into tai kwon do and had another friend who trained and competed in tournaments. That person was cruising with a group around the mall one day (this was back in the 80's when cruising around the mall was what you did - in between stops to the arcade and EB) and got into an argument and then a fight with another pair of mall thugs. He ended up getting his bottom smacked around because every kick he gave to the thug ended up as a tap on his body. Apparently for tournaments you train to pull your strikes so that you geta "hit" but don't actually hurt the other person. In this instance his training failed him as he lightly tapped the thug and got trounced himself.

Anywho, my opinion is that only the completed stats matter. If any. Cause frankly, my stats (And at least some others according to this thread) don't actually match up with reality.

If they did, well, win percentage and such do not show skill level.

My little story held true as all of my strong vs. AI/noob skills were torn asunder by pacov in a quick little reality match last night.

In some slight defense, as I was not exactly thinking of beating him as much as getting some skilled-player playtime in, I am finding that Rook is a much more difficult DG to beat than I had previously thought.  Another skilled player (I forget who at this moment) recently spanked me with him and made the comment that a good Rook is very hard to beat.  I always have played him poorly it seems - probably too aggressively - and did not appreciate how tough he is.

Always something new to think about.

Thanks to a few good tips, I am now much better with Oak. Thanks! I seam to win 7 out of 10 games. 31% win now! Hehehe! Slow but at least in the right direction.

try to play with nnnils on your team. You will always win unless it goes to the portal game:P

as long as zen doesn't go erb, you are all set.  :P

Sure its good to have the best players on yoúr team, but Id like them to be balanced. "I" want to win...not have Nnils kick butt for me ;-)

They dont take me in their games anyway. "Go away noob!"

We think in shedules and you just don't fit into theirs.

I can understand that behavior a bit.You want to play a game, where you have fun and are challenged also. And after a 1000 or more games and no desire of being a teacher, you maybe would act the same (I hope not, because I don't like that kind of behavior, but surely I can accept it =))

I wouldn't bother because who wants to play with somebody that doesn't want to play with you?

Get 500+ games and 50%+ wins (of course... this is most important! ^^) and then try to enter these skilled/pro wahtever games, i would suggest.

Another thing (which could be also frustrating) is to ask the host if you can join. Maybe that works? But don`t blame me, if not. :P ^^

I host myself alot now. So that takes care of that.

I fully understand if I cant join the "pro" games. Thats fine. Its just all else where they say NOOB right of the bat.

Yesterday was a great exemple. Made a Levaithan map and got people for it. Several players argued about not having me in the team. Fine. Dark was there, which was funny. They got the team they wanted. Their % was waaay bigger then ours. It was me, dark 1 mid player (Serraxl something) and a total new person.

We crushed them...... I wount name the other team, but it was normal players I have seen alot. :-)

And the 3 others where just "newbies" where they? ;-)

We had fair yes. But the discussion before the game was that whoever got me on their team would loose :-p. Because of my bad %.

It's actually quite beneficial to have the lowest % of the bunch in PUG games. Let's say, there are 6 ppl in the lobby: nnnils, Zen, me, KlausKlaus, EldonTyrell, doggu. On the surface, it is 60%x3, 50%x2, 40%x1. So I bet I'd be attached to Zen and nnnils as a liability.

At least you get to play. Doggu always kicks me....

And honestly...with that gang you just said, I do not belong there (yet).

At least you get to play.

That's not the point. I'm actually saying it's an advantage, since with setup like this, that's almost a sure win for our team (for a variety of reasons, 2 excellent carries + 1 good support >>> 1 excellent carry + 2 good carries). Darkliath could have benefited from this psychological nuance, too (getting attached to a stronger team, since her win percentage is low), but she plays aggressive characters (her best are Reg and TB), so she's not affected by this dynamic so much.

Now, "skilled only" lobbies ppapanek and nnnils are hosting are something else, no one looks at the % there, just the reputation.

I had a great night playing. Got praises from several people who seen me before who told me I improved alot! Even though Im an old dog, I felt like a young kid getting icecream!

Me too. Especially when Pacov told me I should have adapted to the map I've seen for the second time in my life ;) Ahhh, that was priceless! Anyway, Cata 4v4 was fun, Zik 4v4 was less so, but still quite an unusual experience.
