Diplomacy. To port or not to port

So I've been thinking about whether I should port Requiem from an Entrenchment only mod... and make it run (and only develop) a Diplomacy version.

I guess the question is: what do you all think of Diplomacy in terms of it's popularity with the greater Sins playerbase?

I've only played 2-3 games so far, but the pirate imbalance issue seemed to make it quite unpopular.

Does anyone think strongly the Entrenchment or Diplomacy is the better mod development path?

Considering the fact that Diplomacy is supposed to be the last expansion for at least quite some time I think we can assume that all mods will eventually switch to Diplomacy as more and more people will get access to the game. Balance-issues will be fixed along the way though I'm not experiencing any with DS atm.

There no reason not to. Sure there are a few things people have complained about. But after I sat in ICO all day yesterday I can say the numbers are there. And the Diplomacy side had more all day.

Diplomacy really adds alot to the game. Even if you play locked teams without pirates. For SP, the improved AI is worth it. For MP, you can have a true FFA now with the Diplomacy side of things improved.

The pirates are being worked on, check out Pirate Dilemma.

I agree that diplomacy is great. For a new mod, would it not be easier to make a mod for Diplomacy and downgrade for Entrenchment?

99% of what you mod for Diplomacy will be interchangeable with Entrenchment so yea i say it is worth the effort.

Absolutely agree.

Depends, if your mod uses the diplomacy research trees the reverse is true. Where as if your mod is made for entrenchment it won't affect the diplomacy research side of things upgrading it. Other than that, I would think that it would be the same amount of work which ever way you go.

Well i took the plunge :)

Interestingly, my first big bang had too much instability so I ported over the code bit by bit. Lot of redundant crap was taken out.

Almost there...
