Talk about anything here.
Well the core is an Intel i5, gfx is an Nvidia GTS-460M.
As for the cards, well, they came on the laptops. So that isn't really my fault.
Here's the product page of the particular model I'm looking at: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?poid=488794
And as for graphics, well, Dawn of War 2, even on all low settings, looks pretty good. And it's really the only game I'd need to run on all low/medium settings. Anything else I'd be able to ramp up and play merrily.
Nice, that will definitely do it ![]()
Nvidia's 460M can run anything, plus it is known for its low temps and relatively low power usage.
Great choice.
No, you wont run it at low settings. I recon either on high, or at least medium-high.
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
the thing is morph, that generally speaking I prefer performance over eye-candy.
So I'd probably start out running it at low, then try medium. Doesn't mean I wouldn't run it on all high settings if it runs perfectly when doing so, but that I'd rather have performance as smooth as an oiled, ah, you know, than eye-watering graphics.
I prefer both at the same time![]()
You should run it at medium settings first, because there is no way that you wont be able to run it smoothly at this setting.
I am telling you, even on high, it might be really smooth.
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
Are you sure, because the system requirements for Dawn of War 2 Chao Rising (that's the latest, released iteration; and it's the basis I use) are pretty steep.
As it is, the HP barely managed to play it.
Yes, I am sure. Even a freaking 8800 GT 512 can play the game at max details and 1920x1200 resolution. Your 460M should be able to handle max details, and 1680x945. Please note, that the 460M is far superior to the 8800. I have yet to find a laptop benchmark for Dawn of War II to prove it, though.
As you can understand, laptops arent exactly the benchmarking standards for gaming, plus Dawn of War II is considered such a 'light' game, these days, so not many sites are benchmarking with that game.
Your old HP? Specs?
P.S. The game has a lot of settings that can be set to "Ultra", I hope you dont plan on setting them on this option.
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
Really, the only specs that mattered for the HP were video card.
Which was an ATI Radeon HD3200. And I haven't been able to find the specs on it. Anywhere.
Yeah, figured. The ATI HD 3200 series is good for movie playback, uhm....browsing the internet, and....yeah, thats about it, lol ![]()
Here's what you gotta do: When you launch the game with your new laptop, set everything to High, and set resolution to the max that your monitor supports (1680x945). Turn Antialiasing to Off. Then run a performance test, and see whats what. If its not running smoothly, then you can try reducing some of the settings to medium. The texture detail option has the most impact on performance, as well as visual quality.

The Radeon HD3200 is faster than most Intel GMA, which is....still really pathetic.

But, its an on-board card, so, I guess that is fair enough.

A video for the regiment I'd want to join in the British Army. Enjoy (if it works).
It works just fine.
LOL, is that video for real, or what?
Seems like a failed attempt to make people wanna join the army.
Its like:
"9th/12th Royal Lancers" "Formation Reconnaissance" "Always Up For It" "Yeah, we Rock! Join the Regiment of Awesomeness now. Hellz yeah!
"
LOL! ![]()
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
What do you want them to say?
"Well... It's one of few careers where you can get your legs blown of in an IED, but you get to go on holidays to weird and wonderful places, like Afghanistan and the Falklands when that kicks off, where you can be killed properly by conventional warfare. All in all, possibly the job with the worst "fatality rate to pay" ratio, but we know you all want to be soldiers really."
That would go well ![]()
To be fair I agree with you that these promotional videos are pretty pointless. After all, most people will already know whether they want to join the army, and what Regiment they want to join.
"Always up for it" is open for misinterpretation...
Because we use the good old regiment system, there's always a rivalry between regiments doing a similar job. Both the Queen's Royal Lancers and the 9th/12th Royal Lancers claim to be the best formation reconnaissance regiment in the Army.
Personally I'd join the 9th/12th Royal Lancers because they're my local armour regiment. My other local regiment is the Royal Anglian Regiment, though by local I mean its catchment area spans most of South-East England.
TBH, trying to get into the Coldstream Guards would be tempting as well, seeing as they are a) a guards regiment, and b ) My CCF is affiliated with them, so they turn up for the AGI each year, and give us loads of kit all year round. It helps that one of the two leaders of the CCF used to be the highest-ranked non-Officer in the Coldstream Guards.
You know what's worrying for me though? Both the Coldstream Guards and the 9th/12th Royal Lancers have an intake of about 5 officers per year (come to think of it I think the Coldstream Guards take even fewer)... Just going to hope that I'm one of the smartest and best for Officer Selection then. ![]()
"They're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, and they're behind us. They can't get away this time!"
LOL ![]()
Well, it would be a lot more honest, instead of promoting it like its some kind of new Call Of Duty game, they could mention the pros and cons of joining a specific regiment.
But yeah, thats the army for ya. IMHO, they shouldnt make these promotional videos at all.
Yes, that was my point originally. I just thought I'd make fun of it at first ![]()
They are pretty pointless indeed. If I wanted to join the army, I'd know all the risks involved, as well as my duties and everything concerning this job, already.
Plus, about which Regiment to join, I'd feel a lot more 'secure' (so to speak), asking a friend, or at least an acquaintance, who serves in that Regiment, and they could fill me in with all the pros and cons of serving in that R.
Promotional videos.....pfft I would only watch them as a formality ![]()
Meh.
You can watch each Regiment's promotional video, and determine which one the best choice for you ![]()
I vote "Black Ops", its pretty fun.
Just kidding.... ![]()
WOW ![]()
Why do they take so few noobs.....I mean, Officers?
How many people form a whole Regiment?
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
Depends on the regiment. I mean, the Rifles have about five regular battalions and two TA battalions, which means there's about 4000 guys in it.
Meanwhile, Guards and Formation Reconaissance regiments are always quite small, usually consisting of a single battalion. This is because guards refuse to amalgamate and FR regiments don't need to be too big, as they are scouts and "first-strikers" if you get what I mean.
More reasons for the small intake include the fact that both FR and Guards regiments are considered elite (though not as elite as the Royal Marines or Paras). 9th/12th Lancers are especially respected as they are the eyes and ears for the 7th Armoured Brigade, known more commonly as the Desert Rats (the guys who handed Rommel's arse to him on a plate in Africa).
"They're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, and they're behind us. They can't get away this time!"

Reported.
Good day sir.
LOL! Just Kidding!
ES POSTHUMUS!!!
More ES Posthumus!!! This is all taken off of God's IPod by the way. ![]()
Video Spam!!! ![]()
Reported yourself?? Nice ![]()
Alright, now that makes more sense.
So why dont you apply for the "Rifles", or some other Regiment? Since they are 4000 like you said, means that they would take a lot more officers per year than the Guards & FR. ![]()
Or do you want to be considered elite?
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
It's more than that. It's what feels right, in a way. Though I could find myself in the Guards or the Marines or the Paras regardless of whether I choose them as one of my three choices. They are known to take measures to ensure that officer candidates that catch their eye are informed of the benefits of joining the "suicidal nutter brigade" (Marines and Paras) over the regiments they put on their application form.
Basically, if you're approached by an elite regiment, you're expected to say yes. Not that I'm saying that I'm expecting to be the best of the best, but I am on my way to 10 A*s at GCSE and am hoping to get 4 A*s at A-Level and move on to Oxford University before I try out for Sandhurst. If I attend Officer Training Corps at University, then that'll give me at least 7 years of cadet training and put in the top few percent of Britain for education. I think that'll boost my chances of getting into the regiment of my choice.
Elitist snobbery all the way!
Did you know that the most promising officers leave the army before they are promoted to Captain? That's because there are so many better payed jobs out there...
Or you could wait until you're a Colonel and earn £80,000 a year, though that's a lot of waiting.
Actually, I can see why they leave... ![]()
"They're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, and they're behind us. They can't get away this time!"
I have nothing else to say about this subject.
The fact that you talk about all this army stuff like its a "Battlefield Bad Company" game, sickens me quite a lot ![]()
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
This place refuses to die huh? Yes! after the recent death of my RP on a different forum i have moved back here for memories sake. ![]()
no matter how hard you try i shall never disappear for ever...
![]()
Now to drag my friends here... ![]()
Oh noes!!!!!!![]()
Yes. Do you have a problem with that?
RP = Role Playing?
Heh, at least you admit it openly
Thats a good step.
Btw, if you are interested in Role Playing, why dont you role-play as my B!+ch, and I'll be your Pimp ![]()
Your friends are welcome, but now that we know they are your "friends", it wont be so fun, would it?
Is that a joke? Hmm...I dont see it, not quite ![]()
Ah, I see Altaux has a better sense of humor than me
Ah well.
"We were inhuman beings....butchers on a field of corpses....corrupt and depraved....only a sum of viscera, blood, and bone - Creatures without soul."
@Whiskey, Alien Swarm is so damn awesome!
Thanks for recommending it here in the Chatroom. Otherwise, I would not have even heard of it, lol ![]()
Btw, how come it is free to play? What do they make out of it? Usually free games (example: League of Legends) have a lot of interesting things to buy (with real money), so there is profit for them, even if you dont pay to play the actual game.
But this game, doesnt have anything to buy, does it?
@Oatesy: About Fallout 3, I forgot to mention 1 last thing. Have you ever tried reducing all graphics details settings to Low or Medium?
Because I recently had a problem with CoD MW2, where it would rarely crash to desktop during the loading screen of any map. Not very often, but 25% of the time, it would crash. I fixed that by setting graphics settings to automatic. (which is still High details, but for some reason manually setting it to high would result in a crash once in a while)
