Hey. SOA2 is the most fun mod I've played for this game. I am hangin out for the diplomacy mod release. I check the site every day. Any clue as to when?
Yanxa, sounds like either you have a driver error or you've botched the install.
Neither. Drivers are brand new and work fine with all other games, and the instal was exactly the same as before.
is it just me or the explosion effects are not the same as in the older version of SOA ?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXx-acw5KKg&feature=related ...this is an older version on youtube, and look at how beautifull the ship explosions are ... in the new version it seems that the explosions are the same as in vanilla Sins...
Great mod, just downloaded it the other day. One thing though, did you intend for the Klingon trade ships to have the capability to fire missiles? Because they are nasty little buggers, these trade ships can take out small frigates which just doesn't seem right to me.
They only have a maximum dps of 50, that's on two targets. If you're losing frigates to trade ships, it's a lot more than one. ![]()

edit - you may also want to check your graphics options in case you're running into the magical 2 GB barrier for the game.
You can't hit 2gb with SOA2.

Good point, psychoak[/quote
You guys are telling me I can raise all my settings to max, and not minidump?
Btw Psychoak is the Exelcesior model going to be updated with Diplomacy update? I'm just lazy.
Oops
The next Entrenchment patch should be a concurrent release with the Diplomacy version.

OK, cool. That's all I wondered. I may just break down and buy Diplomacy and try both versions then.
i need some one to help me, i am trying to download this mod, first time i have ever done such a thing, it just looks so awesome i MUST play it, the problem is i dont know where to start or how to do it, if some one can help me that would be greatly apprecatied
First, what version of what expansion do you need? Diplomacy is not released yet. Entrenchment version is good.

General Mods installing help http://soase.weebly.com/placing-mods.html
no matter what i try to do i cant seem to put any thing in where it should be, the mods arent going into a file that sins recognizes, further more, im not sure that i am using a file that sins can even recognize, like when i download them, what should i do to them and where should i put them
download the file, extract it into Entrenchment mods folder, start the game, go to options and enable the mod...pretty basic stuff
yes they are stock atm , due to the fact we removed them to make room for other things and we plan on redoing them once we have all of our custom models ingame .
thank you for clearing that out...I managed to replace the explosion effects from 0.4.2 to the newest version for Entrenchment...I copy\pasted them from the "particle" folder...
I did the Danube research..but...what does it do??? I can't seem to find the Danube Minelayer..where should I be looking ?
Not usually into fan made videos but this one is quite exceptional.
Someone needs a job over at ILM.... ![]()
I am trying to play SOA with at least 2 or 3 ai factions. I have tried regular and hard AI settings. No matter what the computer does it seems like once I build up a fleet of roughly 50 ships or so as any faction I steamroll them into oblivion. I am just wondering if that is to be expected. Should I try the unfair AI setting?
It seems like the built in AI doesn't really know how to use these factions and ships. Have you got any suggestions on how to set up a challenging game?
Also I noticed too a Federation ship or something get shot to pieces by a few Klingon trade ships. At first I thought it might be an accident but then I realized that Klingons live for battle so even the traders would have weaponized their transports.
Mostly what the AI seems to do is put a bunch of ships in the star's grid and send a few at a time maybe to a particular world. It will keep repeating this even if it means defeat every time.
I don't think my skill is good enough to play other people online so I mostly play all games against AI. Regular Entrenchment seems to be quite good AI but I just don't care anything about the factions. Thats why I only play SOA.

Thats from the film Star Wreck in the Pirkining. Its a awesome film, i would highly recommend it!! For basically a fan film made with not very much its SFX's are mind blowingly good.
As for the mod will the inside out Klingon brel be fixed? you have most likely answered this and i am blind and have missed it

Yeah, it's been well known that the AI is pretty dumb. It only has one strategy (amass and attack) and doesn't have any concept about the economics of the game. The modders said that they can't do anything about that. Try a game against the Borg or against Human players for a challenge.
Although it has been brought up before, I also think that the Klingon trade ships upgraded 2 times with merc rockets can easily take out light frigates when they outnumber them. Just be careful around them. The trade ships have great firepower, but little/no defense.
The comparative problem with the AI in Sins is that it doesn't handle resources or objectively analyze power differences between ships in a method acceptable for large variation in mechanics.
Vanilla is balanced in such a fashion that you rarely see it. Casualties are quickly replaced because ships are very inexpensive aside from capital ships. Casualties among those expensive, hard to replace ships are rare by comparison.
With SOA2, the difference between the frigates and capitals is less. Casualties among those significantly less comparably durable capitals are higher, casualties among the frigates are expensive to replace. That it doesn't recognize four Excelsiors as a significant threat to a colony capital ship exacerbates the problem. They also blow up faster in SOA2 than in vanilla, which decreases the survival rate when fleeing, although this is partially mitigated by the lessened chargeup times for jumping.
The more irrelevant or easily prevented casualties are, the better the AI will behave. This works out quite well for games that mirror the Sins design of small frigates and large capitals(SOGE is actually harder than vanilla with the exception of poor defense management), but poorly for more homogenized fleets like the Federation where even the smallest ships are substantial investments.
