If I had a shit load of money, I would pay someone to mod  this game just like a mini development team.

COME ON!!!!!There has got to be a rich fuck playing this game!!! lol

No Their probably making money.....

End of wbino's quote

Even if we wanted to take money , we couldn't. As soon as money is involded  or any other type of  gain would immediately get us sued and the mod shut down.  Would make warp speed look like a snail. Nice thought thou.

I was thinking more modders time than game profit. :digichet:

It doesn't matter.

You could sell copyrighted works at cost and not make a dime off your venture, but they'd still lock your ass down for infringement.  For a mod to have any kind of monetary involvement, the publisher, developer, and entities holding third party copyrights would all have to be involved in the permission process.  Any one of them will have standing.

Not to mention the fury of the 3rd party model authors if they got wind of us making any cash. As long as no money is involved then no problem. Besides if we profited we would be breaking the sins EULA as well.

The only thing you would be spending is time by helping us. That is of course if you have the free time to spend. If you are willing to learn how to model there are plenty of tutorials around, and the skill you learn will go beyond just sins modding. Think of it like a stepping stone.

Should the mod work with diplomacy 1.33 released few days ago?

Got many "String not found" buttons and descriptions (german version of the game).

No big changes in the update so it should be workable but not perfect (no promises). I am working on the new version now.

Sorry, no fluent Germans on the team. Would you like to translate 7040 text strings for us?

If you installed the German version you will not be loading our strings version. M0ds just substitute files and we do not include a German.str. If you have basic English you can rename a copy of the m0ds (String/ is the m0ds String folder) String/English.str to String/German.str which all the text will be in English but will be there.

Calling Major Stress - Get me on MSM when you can

EDIT:

SOA 2 Sky Drive

Updated English.str to DIP 1.33
Updated ICOLoginScreen.window to DIP 1.33
Fixed PlayerScreen.window
Fixed NPCScreen.window
Fixed entity.manifest <-- Count off by 2. Count is not total lines, it's total entities.

Now I just need Psy to wake up the server.

We will be able to convert the string file to almost any language. Thanks to a new program zombieruss made and a msn api.  Please be patient as this will take some time. If you want a specific language for the strings please contact me via msn or pm me.

ps good job myfist :>

thanks jay

FYI for myfist and everyone... I don't know if the link above was intended to be a public update to 1.33, but the entity.manifest file breaks the mod and causes it to throw a minidump when trying to activate the mod.

Using the dev exe reveals a large number of errors relating to entities not found in the GameInfo folder. I assume these are objects that will be added in the next release version of SOA. This causes a crash regardless of which exe you're using.

I fixed the issue by just using the original entity.manifest file included in 0.5D.

On the very awesome upside, it appears that many of the string errors I was running across recently have been fixed... a very nice bonus update :)

Sorry guys.

I am not using the public version so I am a bit ahead of the public but behind on the mod work that has beed added.

On a side note, I am glad that the Skydrive is public and general users can get files.

If anyone fixed the current version of the mod for 1.33 Send to Me, Myfist0, Psychoak,or Jaytlrpcs the fixed files via PM, and we will update the current ModDB download with the fix's. Thanks (Stress).

Also if anyone did Spanish, French, German, Russian, etc. etc. Translations of the mod English.string send them as well.

We know there are missing strings (among other things). Hopefully 0.5D.1 will fix most of this.

To the SoA2Team.. I am EXTREMELY busy in RL. In other words no time to do anything with the mod. I need to rely on you guys for a while again. At least until the holidays come up, and i can get a few days off to fix the models again. I need you guys to do your best until i can get on this again. Ill try to get on MSN this weekend but no promises.

Hey guys

Iv'e been with SINS from the start and I'll say it again "I love this mod". I read the posts here often but usually I dont comment. I started to develop a Star Trek map on galaxy forge ... I'm using the mod its on galaxy forge but I'm having a problem trying to sort out an issue, I want to place neutral colony planets but what I have tried seems to be not working. I've tried doing it in gf itself and editing in notepad by changing the map file itself I'm not sure if the info i got on it was up to date on how to do it or not...or is this cause it's the mod itself?

On another note i found this on my search for my problem with the editing and I laffed lol, check the link lmao.https://www.sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Sacrifice_of_Angels_2

P.S. They should Bring back DS9 or a movie.

The galaxy def file probably doesn't recognize what you are trying to use in the map. Working on fixing it.

ROFLMAO!! @ link!  The poster obviously doesn't get it... We (the SoA 2 Team) DO use canon ships for canon roles.. We refuse to use STUPID ships for STUPID roles.

Just a thought... We clearly do not want the stupidity of trek in OUR mod. We made absolutely no secret of that at all over the years. Why do people STILL insist that we put this nonsense in OUR MOD any way? Are their arms Broken? Are they Blind? Do they not know how to operate a computer? Do they have an IQ higher than Lint (Rhetorical question)?

ANYBODY can learn how to mod, and can make a pretty good mod if they put the time, and effort into it.

Anybody could have made an Enterprise, Voyager, or Nemesis mod in the last 3 years, and not one word would have been said about it by the SoA 2 Team. Except maybe "That is cool", or "Great job" if the mod really is good.

We do not hold any kind of license for trek IP. So Anybody could have done what ever era, or put what ever they wanted into THEIR mod.

The real question is after 3 years why hasn't anyone done so yet?

Because Voyager and Enterprise suck monkey nuts, and no one really wants mods for them. :)

Except for the fine acting of Patrick Stewart and some well written episodes, TNG was not as great as some of you remember...

Lets not forget Welsey Crusher, The great acting of Number One, Deanna the bodysuit consul with a bridge position.

And Data the robot..."lets do all the old Spock jokes on a ai"  brilliant.....

Rose colored glasses I think...

There is just one real Trek the original..the rest were just the powers that be milking a franchise.

No, TNG was better than the unmentionables.  Voyager had the same tired bent, playing the same jokes on the hologram doctor instead.  Enterprise went back and rehashed the Vulcan entirely.

What they didn't do was completely trash timelines, wipe the floor with prescribed rules, and generally pull lame horse shit to get around plot holes the size of a solar system.

I can shred the entire Voyager show with one simple point.  It doesn't take eight years to get across Federation space.

The Federation is thousands of light years across, takes a couple months to traverse, and Voyager was going to take several decades to do what might have been a five year trip, by pretending warp 9.6 was slower than warp 8 from just a few years back.  Meanwhile they shred one standard after another during the show in an attempt to make their 70 year journey impossibly hard, yet still attainable.  They then throw in the odd insult, like raping the timeline by adding fictitious damage to the USS Excelsior.  It was apparently heavily damaged in a firefight before exceeding safe velocities for an extended period of time to get to another battle!

Enterprise raped the timeline so much it isn't even worth mentioning specific incidents of absurdity.  TNG and DS9 at least played nice with each other and left established facts alone instead of shredding TOS episodes and movies with "new" content.  They were lazy, they just didn't care enough to bother making the series fit the setting.

Was TNG perfect?  Hell no.  The makeup on Worf alone ensured that with the first season.  Voyager and Enterprise are just plain bad though.  Good episodes hidden in a blah show, instead of blah episodes lacing a good show.  TOS wasn't perfect either, there was some seriously cheesy shit in the 60's, and it took part in the idiocy too.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

One good TNG episode where the effects team screwed the pooch was Darmok (Phasers firing from the torpedo tube). This is just after the epic battles in BoBW! That is just nit picking. The real awfulness was umm the cheesy, and useless death of Tasha Yar by an animated "oil slick". Overuse of the holodeck for filler episodes. The Ferrengi in the first few seasons. How i wished Picard would tell Wesley "GET OFF MY BRIDGE!!" in every episode. TNG is where the excessive use of time travel plots started. Yea TNG was full of bad moments, but like what was said all wrapped up in a Good Show.

I am in my late forties so i grew up with nothing but TOS. Until the first set of movies then TNG. TOS definitely has its share of chease, and bad in it. Especially compared to TNG. However TNG, and beyond wouldnt exist if it wasnt for TOS.

Part of the criticism, and nit picking of trek comes from our own expectations of "what trek should be". Instead of what it is. Yes the SoA 2 team is kinda guilty of this as well.. But really?.. "Remuns" aka buffy the vampire slayer Nosferatu's? instead of what we were lead to believe until nemesis that the Remans (what they should have been) were Romulans that just happen to have settled on Remus. Yet another fire while cloaked ubership. (least it wasnt time travel).

Yea i am just babbling.. Pay no mind.

Once Roddenbury was no longer in charge things were going to change...period.

btw favorite TNG episode would be The Inner Light.

That is a good one.

Tried it when it first came out, and hated it.. Then tried it again when it became sorta FTP (quite a few updates happened since 1st release). It got a little better, but still wasnt my cup o tea. It has potential. However i think STO will fizzle out before its true potential can be achieved. Warhammer AoR had a similar problem. Looked great on paper, and was hyped to death, but the actual game left much to be desired. It was "ok", but it played too much like WoW, and at times "looked" like WoW (cant say i am surprised since both franchises are a ripoff of LoTR). You cant duplicate table top mechanics, and tactics in an MMORPG.

Yeah it may fade out..It is becoming free next month on steam i think..right now its on sale..I just started playing again and there is a lot of improvements, to I still think more strategy needs to be implemented. There is also this if u guys have not seen it yet and you wanna check it out. http://startrek-is.com

I play Star Trek Online regularly and enjoy it. It's the closest thing we can get to new stories for now, and the ship combat really is a lot of fun, even though there's sometimes too much emphasis on combat.

Odds, the game you posted, Star Trek Infinite Space, looked really promising, but the game is on permanent hold now. The link they have on the site used to be to a press release regarding the game, to which they are basically saying it's abandoned for the time being. I wouldn't count on seeing it anytime soon, sadly.

If you want a laugh, watch any interview with Wil Wheaton when he gets asked about Wesley and he'll just sigh and roll his eyes.....  He apparently hates the character of Wesley as much as we do!!!

I have a tiny question (or two).

-Is there any way to increase the unit cap (easily...for both moder and the game to run)?

-If there is...will the AI take advantage of such an increase or no?
