Colony Frigate issue

I remember in the past, I have played games where certain players had lost All thier planets, but were able to stay alive becouse they owned a colony frigate.

So, I am trying to make a mod that completely elliminates the need for planets. And I pretty much need the colony frigates to keep my new civs from dying.

However, now when I test it. (even with no mod on) I build a colony frigate, and I scuttle my planets. I die.

So, what is going on? Am I completely mistaken on my idea that a civ could have ever survived without planets by using a colony frigate?

(If I am wrong, thier may still be a way around this yet)

This is a terrifying idea. I don't even wanna think about having to chase down a stupid colony frigate for all eternity. :annoyed:

It would go kinda neat with the Vasari's story, tho...

You are not mistaken. I was doing a comp stomp with 2 of my friends, and one of them lost all of their planets, but still had one colony frigate. (My other friend and I couldn't make it in time to save his planets:'( ) Fortunetly, the AI didn't want to take what were formally his planets (they were overthrown by culture) so the frigate survived. Eventually I was able to fight my way over to him, and protected him while he re-colonized his planets.

Anyway, the point being that he lost all his planets but not his colony frig, so he didn't loose.

However, that doesn't help with your problem. Maybe a recent patch changed that? I think we were playing on 1.01 or 1.02.

I don't think the guy wanted anyone to have to chase colony frigs. I think he wanted to change the EXPAND-BUILDUP-CONQUER strategy game Sins are now into something like Sudden Strike, where you get a fleet and then battle with an enemy with a setup fleet too.

I think.

I dunno about colony frigs, but if you don't want anyone to build anythang, just give them a dead asteroid as a homeworld and make sure there are no terran or desert planets on the map ;D.
No logistic slots = no civic labs = no colonisation.

Having looked into this before, as a way of making scenario maps for specific battles, a modified version of N3rull's suggestion is the best we could do, modified because having no planets is an instant defeat, but having only the one planet means players can ignore however you want them to be playing and just rush the single planet.

Our plan, as it fits with the victory condition we wished to have, was to make a buff that made the planet immortal whilst linking it with the Flagship of the fleet, so if the flagship died, so did the planet. but you could probably make it so that the planet only died when you had lost all your ships.

I could do that..

But my end goal is to have completly nomadic races.

Like in Homeworld.

I'll message a develeper if no body knows....

Also, i'll be sure to do something so that it isn't Hell to chase down one frigate. Maby I'll make it REALLY slow.

i think the problem is: it is game over if you lose all of your planets when having no allies, or if teams are unlocked.

if you start with locked teams and at least 1 ally you should be able to run around with a colony ship.

oops. Forums screwed up on me.

I have tried it. And you are right, need to have locked teams and an ally.

Great, That will make things interesting.
