AI is stupid on custom maps?

I made a map for two players, equal on both sides (many fire/ice/terran planets) for both players, and about 30 rows of pirate planets (so capitals would both be a fairly high level and it would prevent any major fights untill mid/late game.

As I was palaying vassari for the first time, I made the AI easy reasearcher. Once I had a decently sized force, I reloaded the game playing as the AI to see what had happened, and it didn't have much..

It had all planets on its side settled, but it didn't even have many ships, it didn't explore or have upgraded all its planets, and it looked horrible.

So I trained some caps for it and then saved and got on as my own player. I also changed the AI to unfair agressor. After I go there and start pwning its planets, the AI hasn't done nothing at all!!

Why? Does it have to do with loading and saving it as human?

The AI, in general, is silly.  For a better challenge, I recommend online multiplayer.   You'll get a greater challenge, more intense and suspenseful games (you might actually lose), human teammates, the chance to practice teamwork, camraderie, and even the chance to make online friends.  Some people even use voice comm to chat.  Come check it out and join the fun!

Make it unfair aggressor and you will have more luck. Easy is like fighting a wet paper bag and researcher means it is less likely to fleet up...

However for a real challenge, do as suggested above and come play us online vs Ironclad Online. It might take you a few games to adjust, but it is sooooo much more fun....

It proabably has something to do with all of those pirate worlds. AI doesn't like to assault them, I tried to use them a buffers before but it took forever for them to do anything about it, and by then I had captured the rest of the map so it was a piece of cake. Try giving them a longer, pirate free alternate route and see if that improves things.

i played a custom map made by a friend of mine for 4 players, had the same thing, lots of planets, but only 1 pirate base just outside of the star for each arm (i.e. each player had 30 or so planets and had to go through a pirate base to get to the star, then another pirate base to get to another arm.

anyway, it was me against 2 unfair researchers, they got through the pirate bases before me (although i did sorta leave it on purpose...)

they both had very fortified planets, very large fleets, and it was only after my 4 starbases and my 2 super fleets kept wiping the floor with them, that they started to throw single cap ships and bits and pieces of fleets against me

i think your problem was that you started on Easy. i mean, if you had 30 pirate bases in a row, that would give even an unfair AI pause. i think empire building is only an AI priority at the beginning of the game, and late game they concentrate more on fighting (however badly) than on buidling an empire.

try it again, maybe fewer pirate worlds, and start them on unfair researcher or aggressor, and see what happens

You know, instead of making pirate bases, you might try just making a planet instead but dramatically increasing the amount of militia on it.  It seems like that would have about the same effect.  I think you can adjust the amount of militia with the <Edit> function for a planet.  Just keep adding militia types to its properties.

Like you did with your custom maps? That is just mean!!!

Going to a roid that has the same defences as a normal terran is ouchy!!!
