Fighter Abitlities

I Want to give a fighter, the Akkan's Ion Cannon ability.

Unfortunatly, fighters can't have abilities.

So is thier some way to give fighters the Ion Cannon ability?

Like attaching it to a weapon somehow?

So instead of firing a projectile, it fires the Ion Cannon?

And how often would the fighter(s) fire this weapon???
Someone who build a few carriers could own a fleet since it is constantly disabled...

Nope..it would not work..and besides, even if you did, these squads would own on anything, even the planet sized Olympus Ships I work on wouldn't be a match for 9 fighters with an ion cannon...

If you're curios, it wouldn't work because the don't have abilities, as in they cannot have them other ships at least have slots that they could be added into, but fighters do not...

I wish they did, that would really let me make fighter/bomber combat awesome (and not overpowered). Unfortuantly it's gonna have to be the simple version.

Yah, it certainly would, but even if they had an ion, imagine a hacylon with anima tempest and ion...thats an instand win...

How many people would relese a good mod with such stupid balance? All abilites don't have to be so powerful.

I would like to see a mod that really focuses on (WWII style) carrier vs carrier combat via large amounts (and types) of fighters and bombers. So the 2 per ship limit and the lack of abilites is annoying.

Look at the abilities that give fighters extra armor, extra strikecraft, etc, Notice how it uses the "ApplyBuffToTargetsLinked" (or whatever the words are)... ...The abilities are cast from the mothership that the fighters are attached to, and give the fighters the effect of the abilities.

The only problem is the parent ship is the one casting the ability... ...but a lot of things are doable with this framework...

Thats true, hadn't thought of that...maybe make something along the lines of "install EMPs".. This would give each squad (not fighters, the squad which is technically what is affected) the ability to launch one shot that would act like the ion cannon...That might work..

It depends on how the 'target' works. It usualy seems like the target is passed down through the buff chain. Is there any buffs which can target something directly and independantly?

And I can balence it.

Short shut down Duration. Long recharge. Small squads ect....
