Whats the Point in the Downloads Section?

are there heavy restictions on what can be uploaded or are the community just not using it? i keep seeing posts which link to external sites to download the mods. wouldnt they get more attention and better serve everyone by posting it on the main downloads site? any reason y this might not happen?

i just really want want to miss any major mods that are coming up cause of the stupid site SD picked to host their mods section.

I have uploaded my first one onto the database, and I will upload my next one. But the thing with the Downloads section is, firstly it can take anything up to 5 days to get yours checked and put on there. A lot can happen in 5 days. I noticed one mod, appeared for a day, the vanished again and reappeared as an updated version 3 days later.

Also, people who are most likely to use these mods, will generally hang around the Modding section of the forum. If you post your mod there with a public download link, it gets noticed and is one click away from downloading. Plus, any feedback you can address directly here, rather than posting in the 'Comments' section of the 'Download' pages.

IMHO and just like Uzii has already pointed out, there really isn't a need for the downloads section for those very reasons that have already been pointed out. Our mod growth is just too massive to have to wait upwards of 5 days for a mod or update to hit. I understand the need for it, but it's too long of a wait for our needs out here. The downloads section would either need an overhaul and/or a dedicated team to monitor that section. I personally don't see either of these things happening or viable until the full Forge Tools are released, whenever that is. Besides. We're in week two of the game. Let's give them some time to figure out their side of the house. :)

I am very happy a Publisher is hosting their own downloads and supporting their community. I will be using it almost exclusively for my custom content.

The 5 days notice is based on the standard WinCustomize moderation time. I've been checking the Sins queues daily, though.

i check the forum often and didnt know about the 5 day wait. i think u guys are right when you say its too long for a game which will be as heavily modded as sins. guess its back to my usual obvlion/SC/total war tactic of scrolling the forums everyday. ah well :) im prepared to make that sacrifice.....oh and great job on the new mods UZII.

Cheers Leon, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about scrolling the forums. Had the last two days off work, and I've practically lived in this nice and cosy forum over that time. :D

If all you're doing to trolling for mods, we do have a consolidated index of both major and general mods being run and updated by 1Spartan, which are both stickied. Go and have a look. :)
