Fleet jump?

an idea

I thought it would be a cool to have an extra option in the fleet panel for fleet jumps, where all the ships move into position at the jump point before making a jump, instead of jumping as soon as they get there.

I would like that. There are times where I would want the whole fleet to jump in at once rather than individually. That way the capital ships stay with the smaller ships when they go together.

Yes, I would find both useful. So I wouldn't want it changed, just the extra option.

When jumping to an unknown planet where a large fleet may be present, I would want the fleet to go together. But if I just need to get ships quickly to a spot for defense or to reinforce a battle already going on, I would want them to jump as soon as possible.

This is already in-game if you right click the move button it will change how ships jump.

The move button (one with the green arrow), if you right click it, it will cycle through wheather it waits for all ships to get ready to jump or jump as soon as possible, tho if you have a large fleet they sometimes don't get into position very quickly.

It's already in the game.

Click on your fleet. In the commands interface, look at the green arrow(s).

Click on that.

If it's a single arrow, ships will move as soon as they get there.

If it's three arrows, ships move as a fleet.

If it's a combination, it's a combination.

Really. I did not know that. That would have been so useful when I was trying to assault a pirate base. Ships were going individually and getting slaughtered by 90 or so kodiak heavy frigates.

Right clicking the move command button lets you toggle if selected ships should jump in a group or as soon as they can. I think this is what you're looking for, if I didn't misunderstand.

I found it. Thanks. But I still think it should be a fleet option, why would I set that on a ship if its not in a fleet?

Wops, I opened the thread in a tab and waited a while before responding. Sorry about the redundant reply :)

It's not a fleet option because it works for control groups as well :)

My personal favorite method is to not force group moves and instead move the fleet to the edge of the gravity well (so no ship is within the shaded portion) and then tell them to jump. This way the frigates chage-up just a bit faster and they arrive in system as a big cluster of tiny ships followed a few seconds later by the big guns.
