What happened to Galactic Miniaturization?

Just noticed it is not there anymore in DL or DA. Where did it go?

Are you referring to the Hyperion Shrinker? Its a Super Project (one per civ) that you can build after you achieve the tech Expert Miniaturization.

No. There was Galactic mini. it was a galactic achievement, and hyper mini. was each civ. I believe they both were under expert mini.

Well, I can tell you that there is not even a remnant of related html code in the PlanetImprovements.html file for either DL or DA. Other items that were once in beta versions of GalCiv II ARE there, just commented out.

Therefore I suspect, if this was a GalCiv original item, it was decided to leave it out of GC2 before it ever went beta. I've never seen any of the old hands mention it, either.

Consider that in GalCiv2 you have the race choice option of the Yor, and to a lesser extent the Thalans, which have their own inherent Miniaturization bonuses. Perhaps it was decided that now that the player has those options, another super-mini GA was superfluous, or really unbalancing.

GC1 didn't have any miniaturization mechanic at all (all ships were predefined).

Alas, the manuals have never been perfectly reliable. I'm generally a pretty shameless Stardock fan, but am also free with my gripes. The lack of a well-maintained downloadable manual is one of their more serious weaknesses. But, in their defense, reading is kind of going out of fashion (a horrible trend, IMO) and the software biz is notoriously documentation-averse.

It looks like this once-planned Galactic Achievement got cleaned out of the code but not from the manual (even the Gold Edition version has it).

I dont remember when they lost it since all the updates and i gave up playing 4 awhile cause the game kept crashing . Now it is running pretty good but there is some stuff missing. A lot of people dont take time to read the manuel so they never knew it was there. I guess someone forgot to add it look on the cutting room floor for it.

mrembezzler, what version of the manual are you capping? The PDF I have from my fairly new installation on my accursed Vista box is dated 12/31/2007 and the splash page has the Gold Edition logo. But when I look at "the same" table, I don't see the typo "Shocase" and there appear to be two more never-shipped achievements: the "Omega Planetary Fleet" and the "Propaganda Machine."

perhaps your memory is playing tricks on you; it wasn't ever there in the actual game (despite what the manual says) in the first place.

unfortunately you're much better off ignoring the manual completely in this game. the galciv2 wiki isn't quite as outdated, but since it's kept up by the community its accuracy depends on player enthusiasm.

IMO it's best to read the XML files directly. MSIE will parse them with all sorts of fun colors to make it easier to read, though i usually just use notepad.

I bought the boxed game last year. It is the manual that came with the game.It was in the game cause i used to build it all the time. I just noticed it is not in the game anymore. So I really dont remember when it was axed or forgotten.

well, i've been playing this game since it came out. i've modded it through and through, and in numerous games i've built every single wonder. i read the forums at least every few days, often spending hours of downtime at work each week here (and as drrider pointed out, no one ever mentions it on here nor have they since the game came out). of course you could be right, but the weight of evidence is against you.

now, if you're interested in adding a Galactic Miniaturization wonder in a mod, that'd be pretty easy to do.

Someone please help me. I am too lazy to uninstall the game install it off the disk play the game build it take a screenshot post it. Dosen't anyone remember it?

I can confirm the manual scan - I've got the same things listed, including 'Galactic Miniaturization'. I've had the game since initial release and I don't remember ever seeing it. Therefore, I don't think it ever made it into the game named 'Galactic Shrinker' - more likely the devs renamed it to Hyperion Shrinker before release.

well I just installed from the disk it's not there I give up. I guess my mind is playing tricks on me. In the manual it says super project hyperion shrinker 15% and galactic achievement galactic miniaturization 10%. maybe it was in my dreams. lol

sorry, i'm sure it must be disappointing. if it's any consolation, as i said before it'd be pretty easy to mod it back in. also, if you want to boost your mini score, you can always take over the planets containing other players' hyperion shrinkers once they're built.
