Producing custom art assets

Is anyone else here using Blender to create leader portraits? I actually think it’s a lot easier to get good looking results by modelling shading and texturing them rendering than it would be to produce assets purely in a 2D package like GIMP.

Have to say although I’m still learning to use it properly I have done some modelling and playing with shading and rendering as well as seeing what more experienced people can do and Blender is one of the most amazing bits of free software out there, It does seem the latest version is really capable of all the things professional packages costing 1000’s to license are.

Another advantage of this approach to modelling races for art assets is that if star docks do find a way to allow custom movies I will have the models and rigs to animate them.

Big thanks to the Blender foundation.

I’ve also noticed that Blender can now be downloaded (free of course) on steam, which is great for making sure you always have the latest version without having to manually update it.

How are other modders making art assets?

Bump

I too want to know if people are using Blender to create their own leader portraits.

Pretty much the same, though personal preference is to use ZBrush and Modo. Even for still images having things in 3D is great for making different poses and more realistic shadows.
