Peaceful Acquisition of Minor Races

Is it possible to take over a minor races planet without military force? I have one nearby and it is already completely within my borders but my current race is benevolent and wouldn't invade without provocation so is their any way to take this planet over, I know it can't be culture flipped but can I incorporate it into my civilization if I am a federation or some such? Multiple major civilization are mentioned to include different races in their description so there should be some way to absorb minor races without conflict.

They cannot be culture flipped and I don't think they can be bought. You can make them your allies though - but this won't actually bring you any significant advantage.

Possibly they may join your empire if they wish to surrender while at war with a different empire who are your rivals.

The Benevolent ideology trait "Enticing" will flip any and all planets or space stations to your civilization, including "Immune to culture flip" planets.

I think that trait can only be used ONCE.  That planets and space stations within your territory at the time the trait is acquired will flip.  That's the only way I can explain having the trait, but planets and stations that later get drowned in my cultural expansion do NOT flip.

Eventually we are going to get something called Assimilation Treaties, if the minors like you enough I'm sure you could use this to get them.

Yes, but you can time it just right.  Remember you don't have to spend an ideology point immediately ... so you could, if you really wanted, really lay cultural starbases on thick to capture everything you want, drown out as much as you can.  You could flip an entire civilization out of existence.

And you don't even have to play Benevolent ... the trait is only 3 tiers in so you could snipe it.

Ah, but I didn't know that at the time.  The way the trait is described, it sounds like it is enduring, rather than a one-time event.
