(IMO) There is no way this game will be ready for consumers on May 14th

Personally, I think that if the devs deal with the issues with 0.90 that were are all reporting in the forums RIGHT NOW, then the game will probably be in an acceptable state come 2 weeks from now.

2 weeks is still time to get a bunch of changes made.

It's pretty much ready to go now. Hell this game is in a much better state then half of my steam library right now. I've only really seen minor stuff like missing icons. Plus SD is very active after release and the community here also tends to help out. 

My biggest issue in the game is still the missing tool tips.

When I am researching and I can choose between say the tech that gives me Research Cloisters  or the Tech that gives me Research Centers.    It would be nice if the tool tips actually told me what those things DID....    as of right now they only show me where they can be built.  

Much as I love this game I have to disagree with you that it's ready to go now, it's not, 0.90 still has some big issue. Yes we all know here stardock are going to continue development after release but plenty of reviewers will still review it as a finished product and would find it wanting in it's current state. Previews are different because they make allowances as we do for it not being the release version.

Anyway I agree with the OP and have already said my bit about this, the ultimate decision is of course stardocks and to me the release will be no different from getting an improved Beta version, but for reviewers it's release software and will be judged as such.

The current build still has many bugs, typo's, spelling mistakes, glitches, etc. While it is better than the last beta by some margin it still doesn't look like a release candidate to me.

There are little icons that you can hover over that will show what they do.

The game is ready. It needs some polish. All the features are in. The OP is worried about reviews. He is a day late. Several Game sites have already reviewed PREVIOUS bug laden Betas and (the game) got great reviews. I am pretty sure this game will get a fair shake. Personally I have had more fun in this Beta since all others up to this point combined and I have put in a LOT of game time. 

There is some text clipping but i have not run into any bugs so far. If people would simply update their drivers, have more than 4 gigs of ram they should have no issues. 

I have two thoughts.

1) What was the state of the game Beta 4?  Beta 5?  Beta 6?  ONE DAY after beta 6 (re hotfix for 4gb people)?  Fifteen days to go.   Let me extrapolate...see where I am going?

2) The guys deciding on this have collectively many decades of experience with their careers and their reputations on the line for their flagship game.    Huh, wonder if they might have a clue what they are doing?

Well, no problem, let's just wait and see.  But I would bet heavy they will do what is right for the franchise.   And as I have said before, if they mess up (hard to believe after 50 hrs on 0.90)  as can happen to ANY game company, they at least have a solid gold track record of making it up to their fans.

And as Larsenex says, this alpha-beta with bugs and all has been so much more fun that everything else similar combined I can't even calculate it.   I have had more fun with this game BEFORE release than with many AAA titles after,

I disagree it got great previews, not reviews. Anyway I'm happy to put my fingers in my ears and pretend that the game has no bugs, glitches, flaws or broken parts.

But I looked at some of those "Reviews" and they acknowledged there where issues with the Beta that would no doubt be fixed by release. If they aren't that will have an impact, I remember similar discussions of Elemental before it's release on the boards like start dock beta testers where too close to the game to be objective.

I don't think the shiny happy the games near perfect view when it's not help stardock much in making these decisions about official release dates. That said I am happy that what ever state the game is in at release they are going to continue working on it so I have no issues as a customer who is already enjoying the game through the beta so I'll shut up now and just let things play out as they will.

Please don't misunderstand.  You are right and indeed encouraged to point out things that need fixes, whatever, and you are welcome to your opinion, however I may differ.  Sharply different points of view are good, they make people think.   

I also dont think this game is ready to launch.  Lets maybe look at this from a different angle.  

So we all know that this game will improve overtime.  When you review a game you tend to review it based on where it currently is.  What do you think this games metascore currently would be?  I really don't see this getting 90+  Maybe some people think its ok to release games at various levels on the scale.  Some may say if a game has a quality of 70 release it other not till its 90 etc.  They would say the quality will go up overtime.  The metascore will not change though.  People will always see what it was at launch.  

I think this game is going to get in the high 70s or low 80s.  I wish the game were at a better point on the scale.  I kinda don't think anything is going to change at this point though.  They now have "sunk cost" from their media tour and telling people about the launch. 

I think the OP (and what, one or two other poster) are being too critical. The game is playing like butter for me. I doubt the reviewers will slaughter the game because of a few typos, and some ambiguous unspecified problems. They have plenty of time to fix the hiccups we are reporting.

The only things that guarantees bad reviews, in my humble, inexpert opinion, are crashes, and stupid tricks and traps that hinder game play. I haven't had a crash,and the game play well for me. If the OP or others want to list the things they think make this game not ready for prime time, I, and the devs, I'm sure, will take the time to read them, but don't bother me with typos. I don't like typos, but I haven't seen enough in the game to judge it not releasable.

The game ISN'T ready. And I doubt it will be. Even as the bugs can be worked out there are gameplay issues that are critical and still ignored by the devs. How can one release a game like that? idk.

That's the point right there.  Each of us has a different threshold of what makes the game ready.  For me, custom colors on factions is not a showstopper.  Having the game crash when going to Battle Viewer is.  Having influence boundaries suddenly become semi-invisible is.  Somewhere among all that is some reasonable set of expectations.  I'm not prepared to be reasonable, so Stardock is going to have to make the decisions.

I look at it as a theater play or other performance being put together.  The background chaos of Shakespeare In Love is a good example.  All the efforts beforehand lead to an epic final frenzy of activity and decisions and things you just can't put off anymore.  It is repeatedly amazing, even when you have done it hundreds of time.  As the movie points out, it works out without the performers knowing how it works either.  It has to.  The show must go on.

So, they are in their final dress rehearsal crunch.  I am not sure what good it does to worry and fret and throw shoes in their general direction, but it seems to be a thing to do. 

I don't think it is ready as is.  I also don't think it will ever be ready enough for some of the population.  The quote above is evidence.  Not that the one request is unreasonable, but the totality of requests can get both overwhelming and contradictory.  I'm not convinced reviewers are ready to give it a fair shake.  That's a whole different topic!  But I am willing to wait before I worry about all that.  It seems more rewarding to discuss mechanics and submit bugs and so forth than to drive ourselves into panicked frenzy, or even long posts like this one.

while i agree that the game is not launch ready, i doubt my reasons for that judgment will have any impact on reviews. many outlets simply do not go that much in depth. as long as it is stable, has no obvious bugs and passable mechanics the game is a go. i seldom see reviews that go deeper into describing and criticizing game mechanics. the only exceptions are how much they differ from the most shallow 4x that everybody knows: civ 5.

Are you sure about that, have you played the *cough* stand-alone title(Mod) Beyond Earth, lol?
