Which AI type is the best ?

What makes the AI challenging? Race or type or ?

Hello all,

Me and my friends love Sins. We regularly come together with the 3 of us to LAN the game VS 3 AI's. However we've noticed, sometimes the game is challenging, sometimes it's not. The actions and actual difficult of the AI vary greatly. We usually play VS 3 allied Hard AI's (we're in essence casual gamers).

For example last game, we had 1 AI who was (especially late game) almost killing 2 of the 3 players by himself, while the other 2 hard AI's were being taken out easily by 1 of us (with only a small effort). And the one that wa giving us issues didn't really have more planets or something than the other 2. We usually play VS random type AI so I'm wondering, could this be a big difference if we set this to aggressor or researcher or something ? Or is it more race dependent (in this game it was an Advent, I think rebel if I remember correctly) ?

Would be great to know what makes it challenging so we can be sure when we start the game it's going to be a good one :)

PS: we play with the forbidden worlds expansion.

Thanks,

Jorn

An agressor AI can be harder by a whole level sometimes (so instead of normal he is like a hard AI), though I don't know how random AI works, but I guess it throws the available types at you(researcher, aggressor, etc) , so you may have gotten an aggressive one, that like building huge armadas and likes attacking people early, and with brute force. The defensive AI is the lamest, he is like a level lower than his actual one (instead of Hard he is like a Normal AI).

Economic is likely best. I'd say aggressive if it actually colonized planets, but it seems to be less likely to do that than other builds.

yo tengo la duda si se utiliza una subfaccion "leal" (por ejemplo "tec leal" que son estratégicamente del estilo "tortuga) seria bueno que se eliga en la configuracion "agresivo" . ¿que opinan? desde ya muchas gracias

I have the doubt if using a sub-faction "fair" (eg "tec fair" that are strategically style "turtle) would be good to be in the configuration Choose" aggressive. "what do you think? from already thank you very much

I don't really think so, though they (Loyalists) do have some nice defensive abilities and upgrades, in this game active defense is better than static ones, so better to invest in ships and some starbases on your border worlds. Fleet+Starbase+some repair, if you compare TEC Loyalist and TEC Rebel, they are almost the same, Rebel is better because he can actually fight back (Loyalist ships lose their boosts when going out of their gravity wells) and their titan is better for offensive tasks (Ragnarov is better against AI than the Ankylon, and it is good for defensive tasks also due to its huge firepower).

But if your playing style is turtling in hard, then yes, Loyalist is a better choice, though I recommend trying the active defense (having a big fleet with light defenses on your planets), it is much better. 1 starbase upgraded somewhat, 2 repair stations, 1-2 hangars with turrets on them (level2 defense research) and ships, lots of ships, this is the best defense in Sins, and it is able to kill vast number of AI ships invading your planet.

I say to the "ia" to put set to "aggressive", I do not play strategy "turtle". my question is if it will be good for the "ia" the confuguracion "aggressive" for all sub-factions (sorry for not knowing English, google translated)

If you like some challenge, than yes. And no matter what faction you choose to play or play against, all will be fun :) they will send more ships and earlier.

No problem, the translated texts are a bit hard to understand perfectly, but not impossible after re-reading it some time.

Once you guys can manhandle the AI, you might consider advancing to playing against human opponents.  You could start by hosting games titled "3v3 new players" or some such so that the pros will avoid your games.
