Is it a good time to return?

I just realized I have access to the LE beta from my original War of Magic preorder way back in the way-back. I played Fallen Enchantress a bit, but never got hooked.

My question is this: should I give the LE beta a go, or wait till the release proper?

Legendary Heroes is nice, especially with the map pack. Many of the features you wouldn't like can be addressed with mods (if you want snaking, or building on the other side of a river, buildings that can be placed on swamp tiles, choosing a hero when you want to).

 

LH has a few quirks: Don't put champions in a stack together because EXP distribution will make them worthless.

 

Overall, I would say yes, the beta is receiving support and updates, and I believe most people enjoy it.

 

I like using the Anthys Map from the  map pack with it, working on making new maps, but i am terrible at using the tools.

hmm, city snaking was probably my least favorite part of WoM. hunting for heroes wasn't far behind. So looks like i'm in for a treat!

 

my main concern was how "finished" the beta is currently. Is there a lot of content still in the pipe? I spoiled Fallen Enchantress for myself by trying it too early in the beta. I'm not much of a tester, i do too much troubleshooting at work to enjoy it in my free time, but if a beta is in a near-finished state it can still be pretty enjoyable.

Honestly I would wait. 

They are changing major parts of the game mechanics right now. 

I would not say that LH is 'near-finished.'  We may be a good 6-8 weeks from that point.

Yep agree with mqpiffle, it's good but still WIP, hold off a bit.
