A list of UI suggestions

This is a repost of a suggestion list I put in the general forum (because I was not aware of this forum and did not know how to find it)

  • Strategic map: selected units, cities should be highlighted in the list on the left (or an arrow if it is offscreen)
  • Selected item display on lower left should include a button to center the display on that item
  • automove could use significant improvement if it is not slated for removal:
    • When a unit is queued up for a multi-season trek, we should have a button to advance that specific unit instead of having to wait for end-of-turn for auto move
    • When a unit moves multiple squares fog of war should be lifted for each intervening location moved
    • There should be some mechanism to preview automove before moving, if this is too computationally expensive on the user's machine to be shown interactively then some manual preview mechanism should be made available (though this is not necessary for moves which can be completed this season).
  • sometimes the mouse location gets out-of-alignment with the underlying selected territory, so the square which higlights the current location should get an option to emphasize it (though I understand some people like how it is now)
  • Strategic map: in the column on the left, units with pending moves should be distinguishable from units which have moved.
  • Ledger: Enchantments should support going directly to the city or unit much like the city list
  • Ledger: City List should have a variation which shows current accumulated totals instead of rates per season
  • Foreign Relations or something: it would be Really Nice if there were some way of seeing Vitals, Resources and Active Treaties for the player faction. Since Active Treaties is available on the strategic map, perhaps it would be sufficient for mouseover to contrast the underlying item with our faction (and this could also be used on the leader's level)

 

Also, from a followup post by athelasloraiel:

  • realm territory map better represented with a border, cities with small letters and faction colored tiles. Printable cloth map or exportable?
  • Hover windows on cities with all enchantments.
  • better icon quality/resolution in production que.
  • Treaties should have more info available on hover window - like lenght of treaty and similar.  especially when a treaty is in action, how many more turns will it last (or if I'm trying to break it or declare war - greyed outoption should show why is it grayed out - due to treaty lasting for X more turns...

What I find atrociously horrible is the unit selection - which unit is selected when, it should be clearly visible, and the mechanics consistent. Too often, after finishing some action, my hero dashes alone at the enemy, leaving the army behind.

Moreover, if unit path takes multiple turns to finish, the range per turn should be visible - ffs, even games like HOMM 3 had that.
