The Ragnarow Rail gun needs a buff!

sorry for the topic title.... but it needs to get some attention.  :P

So, why does the main weapon of the most firepower heavy ship in the game need a buff?

Average Gauss Damage: 85
Average Flak Damage: 9
Average Rail Gun Damage: 98
Average Autocannon Damage: 49
Average Missile Damage: 24

As you can see, the gaus damage is very close to the main rail gun. Yes, thats right, those 6 puny turrets do nearly as much damage as a 20 km long rail gun that fires slugs the size of frigates at tremendous speed.

Quick Gauss Capacitors further reduce the damage difference and Highly Conductive Rails beefs up the range by a nice margin.

I henceforth propose the the Gaus Guns are nerfed by 30 % and that their lost damage is transferred directly to the main rail gun.

This would not make any difference when dealing with target direct in front of your Titan. The damage would be exactly the same.

It would however make a difference when you are not in front of the Ragnarov, which is a wise thing to do.

Lore/Physics justification:

If 2 more gaus turrets could actually outclass a 20 km long rail gun, little point in the design then. They just could build an Ankylon copy with 16 gaus guns instead, it would have more firepower.

It does look stupid.... all those gaus hits and then a broadside from the main gun..... and the additional damage is barely noticable.

Balancing justification:

One of the reasons the Ankylon does suffer so lot im comparsions with the Ragnarov is its poor attack vector. The Ankylon can only fire 1 of 4 sides against an enemy on the left side, the Ragnarov however will join in with the gaus guns.

Both Ankylon and Ragnarov have 360 coverage, however the Ragnarov has better coverage, mostly thanks to the Gaus Guns that have a very large attack vector. You cannot avoid them and in as such the Ragnarov is even better than the Anylon once totally surrounded.

Imho the Ragnarov should be more rewarding to flank and it should be more endangered by such a a move. Right now, the Ankylon is even inferior on the defense..... thats not good.

The Gauss damage in the infocard includes both the Ragnarov's Frontal and rear Gauss Guns.  Frontal Gauss guns are only 45.7 DPS as compared to the railgun's 100.

Not to mentions while they have the same DPS, due to longer weapon cooldowns, each barrage of the frontal Gauss guns deals total less then 1/3 the damage of the Railgun firing.  Longer weapon cooldowns are also mechanically advantageous as they can allow more damage to be dealt before shield mitigation goes up.

Then again get a bit hesitant when I see "buff" and "Ragnarov" in the same sentence- It's probably the second strongest titan after the Eradica.

The Gauss guns and flak only fire forwards and back. The missiles and autocannons are the Ragnarov's only side weapons. As a percentage of total damage the Ankylon is more efficient when dealing with enemies on all sides.

Personally I find this too trivial to really care about, but with the Gauss guns keep in mind their main advantage in the rate of fire. A rail gun of that size must take substantial power to launch and ammo would certainly be very limited if that were kept track of in Sins. In practice that means it needs to fire slower, so the smaller cannons could indeed do almost as much damage over time by firing more often.

from a "feel" perspective, you really notice when the main railgun hits a foe, especially at higher levels on the ragnarov.  Not so true of its other guns.

It can destroy most  lighter frigates in a single hit.... I don't really see why that needs a buff.

Personally, I think that the TEC Rebels are the most balanced race in Rebellion right now. Vasari are generally (VL are mostly balanced) OP, Advent are generally (excepting Eraidica and possibly Wail) UP and TEC Loyalists are UP. The TEC Rebels are great where they are, and that includes the Ragnarov titan.

The only thing I don't like about them is that their "Ultimate" tech is really kind of useless. Granted I never get it, but it doesn't seem like enough new ships get produced at your home world to make it worthwhile. Their mid level techs of Truce Amongst Rogues and the Ragnarov do indeed make up for it though.

naw, the terminal stages are when the victim starts trolling devs with great regularity- usually at this stage victims are told they have only two or three weeks left(before the ban).  That said, self-trolling is a major symptom of the advanced stages of the disease.

Should you notice yourself self-trolling, contact a medical professional immediately.

Is this a troll post?

How can anyone honestly ask for buffs to this titan?

This is hardly a troll post...it's just not as important as the krosov pylon issue...

On a more serious note, I think the title was more to get attention than to actually be indicative of the OP's intent...it seems like he just wants to shift some numbers around on the Ragnarov to make it more offensive and less defensive...

aresiv trolling again from wanting to pick which titan he can build ingame to buffing op titans instead of up ones. So far in the last 48 hours thats 2 for him, 0 for Mecha.

I suggested a lot of buffs to the UP Ankylon recently... but nobody did listen yet.... :P

Besides... aren't those charts damage per SECOND rather than damage per shot? I would think the actual damage per shot is more on the order of 300-500.

The damage per shot on the railgun is 1000. 8(|

But yes, DPS is what you should be measuring thing is. Slow firing weapons that do tons of damage like the railgun do have a slight advantage when it comes mitigation, but usually its insignificant and what does an instant kill shot do if it fires only once every 10 minutes?
